Hi, im currently driving a 325i E30 and last few months ago, my strut spring housing cracked due to accident. My uncle owns a 316i E30 in singapore and had a pair of spare front spring strut, he gave it to me. I happily fixed it and the problem solved.Recently, i bought a pair of Bilstein Sport suspension (yellow with thick strut). I forgot that i was using 316i strut...am i in deep trouble? The question now is, can i use the Bilstein Sport in my 316i spring strut? I read in the internet that the 316i spring strut have 2 version of diameter, 45MM and 51MM. The 325i is 51MM. im so helpless now, please enlighten meThxChris

the strut housing comes from a 1990 316i. Does it have a 45MM or 51MM, are they anyway of determine the diameter instead of taking the whole housing out? thx

Have you heard of a measuring tool called Caliper?:D I hear Mitotoyo is the best...:D haha...joking dude. :D

If you are refering to the tower mount. Then get a pair new. Not that expensive anyway.

Want contacts for BMW Spareparts shops???

First Division,Bavarian Auto,Bomin,Ortojaya or CSS Autoparts? pls use pm function. Not promoting for them la...sorry.

Strut housing for 45mm abs, the locking nut/flange covers the outer side for the housing. In other words, you'll see the locking thread on the outer surface.

for the 51mm strut housing, the locking nut/flange is mostly hidden. You'll won't see the thread as it is on the insider surface.

If you can't visualize what I described above. Then the best way is to take a vernier caliper to measure the diameter of the housing.

i have a pair for left and right strut.. you want it ? come and get it.. at a small cost..

regards.

so basically, i have to change the whole strut in order to use the bilstein sport la?

yes, you need to utilize the strut, with a new set of bearings only..the rest is transferable..
