Hi there! I am new to this site. I wanted to ask, how often (in years) does BMW come up with a new model of the 3 Series (320i, 323i & 325i). How long was the E46 around before the E90 was introduced? When was the E90 launched and any idea when will a newer model of the 3 series be out? Thanks.

Why u from the market research firm? Please go to our newbies section to intro yourself, so that we know you are not a con man. You must fill in your profession there..

Unless you are a not honest, con man, then we are in trouble..

Anyway, just to answer your question, first E46 rolled out somewhere in 1999, face lifted in 2002 and E90 is introduced in 2005, face lifted 2009, replacement for E90 will be out in...... wait, I go buy number first.. :D

I introduce a friend to u who can give you a more detailed answer:

Average product cycle lifespan for most new BMW models (e.g. E90, E46, E36, E30, etc.) should be 6 to 7 years. I think this is usually slightly longer than Jap cars.

.... and this product life cycle philosophy is cutting short due to staying ahead of competition.. It's going to be shorter than 6-7 year now.. confirm! The Japs are doing it every 2 years!

Hi All...thank you for your replies. No I am not a con-man nor do I work for a market research firm. I'm just looking to get a 323i and wanted to know more. Reading up and trying to get more information. :)

pull up wikipedia and key in E30, E46, or E90. there's a table at bottom of those pages. first para will also tell you the start and end of production years. cintalah I.T...

With the incredibly shrinking market worldwide, and impending surge towards hybrids and alternative fuels, I wouldn't be surprised if all manufacturers are rethinking their product lifecycle strategies. The replacement for the 5 is supposed to be out later this year to become the 2010 model. Let's watch for that timing as a bellwether.

Meantime, go get your 323i bsoosay. A replacement 3 is at least 3 years away. A 700km round-trip to Penang today on the NSE reminds me why the E90 is a great car. I enjoyed the drive so much, I could have driven on to Singapore! :)

The new 3 is rumored to release in 2012. Coincides with Schweppes' claim..

Here's the new 3 series - F30
Due to launch in 2012. Worth to wait.

Its amazing to see newer models but retaining the Hoffmeister curve, kidney grille, short overhang, stretch bonnet, twin round lights.. yet refreshing.. great stuff!

I wonder how many more generation of 3s I live to see.. :smokin:

Hey BlackE90, like your avatar photo. What's the story on those pixes? The look is very cool but those are only artists renditions right? There can't possibly be spyshots of the next 3 yet? There are hardly any of the next 5 and that's supposed to be out this year.

Yup, a 2012 model change would be about right, and our units will all be 4 - 5 years old by then and starting to creak here and there. So we'll all have a major itch by then! ;)

Here's the new 5 series - F10

BTW bsoosay, I was doing 160 on the curves and 180 on the straights yesterday, but a black Vios kept up with me. So the Vios is also a great car... :p

The only difference is you are cruising, exchanging conversation with your passengers, the VIOS is screaming its lung out, both hand sweating, iris open wide and dare not even blink.. :p

bro schwepps, a Proton Persona also kept up with my 325 while im doing 140-160 enjoying the the Karak KL highway bout 2 weeks ago...well should Persona be a great car also???:stupid::stupid: or i need BMW driving lesson from sifu's??:top:

Bro haku, most cars can do 160, but when I stepped up to 180, the Vios could still keep up. That's not bad for a Vios!

I salute the car, not the driver. When it started pouring with rain, I slowed down and he shot past and kept going. It was so heavy that puddles were forming. I don't call that a good driver. I call that an irresponsible jerk who's endangering others on the road.

Saw a funny sight a couple of weeks ago coming down Karak-Kl where a well driven Kembara took the corners better than a porsche cayenne S. Or maybe the porsche was just playing around.

Gen-2 and Neos are alos good cars that can humble a bimmer

I enjoy the company of a good fast driver, but not fools. If I find someone who's doing my speed, I'll try to swop places with him occasionally because the one in front is clearing the fast lane for the other. A bit like tour cycling... :) Rarely do the smaller cars behave well though. They're usually just trying to prove they can take on a bimmer and will do stupid things like tailgating you. I only find that childish and refuse to play along. Anyway, we're drifting way OT here! :p
