When I first saw TT(1st gen), it was "love at first sight".
But I soon turn away the car because
1.FWD,
2.very front heavy,
3.1.8T is under powered

The 2nd gen improved alot.
But transverse engine with AWD & heavy front still don't convince me.

A good roadster should always be a FR, and near weight distribution of 50/50.
Hope this help :)

city hard to drive fast...

just using it as a daily car, dont need too much power...

1.8T, how underpower is it?

Would you like to share the stories that you have heard about the Z4? I've been driving the car for 3 years now. So far, besides being a head turner, it has not been anything but excitement and thrills. There are some selected ones that come with hard tops. If I’m not mistaken the lots of 3.0si.

I’ve also noticed that, apart from your qualms of having soft tops, you are not looking for anything too powerful. And, I agree with turbology that 1.8T would suffice. My friend, I think you knew all along what you actually wanted. Just need that extra “push factor”, huh?

The Audi TT is what I believe to be a perfect car for ladies. No offense :) It's beautiful, and any garage would be lucky to have one...but it lacks the performance to really get me excited. It's snail paced. Considering its price. Even the 220hp Quattro is just a little below par. In short, I'd love to own one but don't want to claim it as my own...call it the raz451 ego thing.

The Z4 has a nice torquey engine, but it just doesn't come alive with revs the way I like. But it is certainly fun to drive. It tied in performance and appeal for the money.

Just my personal views.

Cheers

Just to simplified the equation.
If you like Auto tranny, go for TT.
If you like 6-speed, and revving matching & heel-toe is your thing, I would pick Z4 any moment. :D

Not that you can't get Z4 in automatic, but for roadster, manual is the way to go.
Speaking of it, does Z4 comes in manual ? I know E46 and E90 don't. Unless I am wrong.

Yes, Z4s do come in 6-speed manual transmission. While E46 has both 5 -6 speed manual (both M and the non-M (limited to 325s), I think). The fifth generation of the 3 series (E90), if I'm not mistaken, comes with a 6-speed manual transmission but limited to 330i and 335i. Not sure if you can find them here though!

RAZ451, any issues about the car that i need to keep an eye out when looking for one.

Looking for a 03 2.2l model...
anyone knows where is a good place to get one...?

Perhaps you would want to check out the Z series section of the forum and maybe join a few other forummers who are also on a look out. A thread has been set up for this particular search. If I'm not wrong, they have also listed a few dealers who have nice units.

Cheers

thanks for the heads up. :top:

other than the girly look of the TT, any technical issues with the mark 1?

LOL!

I think you read my post all wrong, my friend. I didn't say that the TT has girly looks but it's snail paced. Therefore, more suitable for the ladies. Anyways, I think turbology has already addressed your concerns on the technical issues.

Hi Bishop,

I had my BMW Z3 2.8 for abt 11years so when i sold it off end of last year i went for hunting for my coupe yup Midlife Crisis!!!!! And i tested the Z4 3.0litre and TT!! And guess what? Audi TT ended up in my garage even it share the same engine as my VW Golf GTI but for daily usage well TT beats Z4 for practicality but in terms of handling well i should say Z4 edge TT anytime on track! But after abt a month of ownership of my TT i think u should not hv any problem living with it. Happy shopping.
