Dear all,Is anyone know which 1 is better in term of maintanance?? Coz i found that Bimmer always have some problem that make me frustrated. :beaten: And heard of Harrier is a good car to drive too. Which is recomanded model for Harrier?? 2.2, 2.4 or 3.0??Thanks!!!!

buy both then you have sports saloon and suv.....but seriously u cant compare both....bmws r also reliable if the car has been cared for...when u but second hand sometimes it boils down to luck....my 328ci year 2000 so far no complain......about the harrier go for 2.4 vvti....more economical than 2.2 which is an older engine ....no vvti...3.0 fuel consumption not great .my two cents...

Thanks Tinman!!! I understnad that both car are actually from 2 different category. But i just want to compare the maintenance. Cos still can't afford a new BMW at this moment.

you should go and search for a toyota forum for the harrier, e46 you can ask here.

A new nissan X-trail 2.5 would be within your budget too....

I actually thought of it before but don't really like Nissan, eventhough it is a good car.... :D But may go for test drive since u recomand it.

Try to pm WJ. He's owned a few bimmers and Harriers before (that guy change cars like changing his underpants). But I think if compare with the e46 318, he will be more inclined towards the Harrier ;) Call on him and i am sure he'll give you a good run down on the technicalities of things

Go for Toyota Harrier first ! Then come another E39 !!!

Maintenance nowadays for toyota and bmw almost the same...

Just go for the model which you & family prefer it...

Don't compare too, in the end of the day couldn't buy any car just because of that few dollars difference...

Regards,
Kinaka

Assuming both the Harrier and the E46 have the same mileage, same condition and are even same year; maintenance cost for the BMW is going to be higher. Given that you're tired of maintenance costs, forget the BMW.

There's no such thing as low maintenance for the marque, as countless male friends of mine have discovered. Sure, low second hand purchase price, great interest rates, etc., but the question will always arise at some point: HOW BADLY DO YOU WANT TO HOLD ON TO THE BMW?

Its a pity that for those friends of mine, fear of the neighbour, g/f's or wife's family thinking lowly of them if they let go their BMW after a few painful years, compel them into keeping a car they can no longer comfortably afford to maintain properly. To them, I always say, serves you right for buying a BMW for status hahaahah!!!

i agree with woo..bmw maintainance will prove higher over time.these are two very different animals man,so its quite easy to choose..what are ur priorities?? space? size? comfort? handling? that'll give u some clues..

i wouldn't consider a 318i if i were you..at least have a look at 6cyl models.and comparatively,the e39 would make a better comparison.

personally i hate SUVs cuz they just don't serve any discernible purpose..want space get an MPV.want performance/status\handling get a saloon.a SUV just don't work for me..they are neither here nor there.its just a spill off from the Americans.its okay for them cuz they need to cross wide open spaces in their huge country..

but end of the day,its your money..

ps-wkwoo,u sure have issues with bimmers dontcha??
