Hi there,Just want to ask all sifu here.. I found a used year 2000 BMW E46 facelift that is in full auto, without tiptronic. I was curios cos all used e46 I came about before this is either manual or auto with tiptronic. I didnt get the chance to look at the engine whether its M43 or N42.Is there any such model of full auto and is it somewhere around year 2000?Thanks ;)

as far as I know, facelift only came from year 2002 onwards...year 2000 is still the older pre-facelift models...unless the owner has changed the parts... :)

Own.. If that's the case, better ask the owner. What's the big difference with facelift and pre-facelift? Is it just the exterior cosmetics difference?

Bro, get the VIN number of the car as you can check the full details via realoem.com

Thanks for the advice. The car actually belongs to my neighbor. He's away for school holiday until next month. He wanted to sell the car. I've test drived a shiftronic e46 before this n love it, but my neighbor car is a fully auto. Is it possible to change that to a shiftronic later? Does it really matter ,the difference between shiftronic & no shiftronic?

The old auto work the same as the newer shiftronic on D, sadly the engine should be M43 20 years old design but it's a very reliable and affordable to maintain engine. Care to share how much you plan to pay for the car?

changing to the shiftronic is not worth the hassle...you need gb...gb ECU..additional wiring and perhaps diff set of engine ECU. Might as well get the shiftronic version. Facelift versions all came with either N42 or N46 (for last batch 2005 e46) 2.0 engine for the 318i and shiftronic 5speed gb. Your neighbours one is prolly 4 speed. As AS pointed out, yes the older m43 is more robust and is cheaper to maintain although its not as powerful as the newer n42/n46 with Valvetronic. M43 produces 118bhp compared to N42 143bhp

Hope this helps :)

last batch m43 is also shiftronic....

not sure what you mean by full auto only...
