Guys,My x5 recently started to experience difficulty to re-start. What happened was when I stopped the car and 'off' it, leave it for 15 minutes or more, it will not start after the ignition key is switch on. The starter is seem to be working but no ignition occurred. I had changed the fuel pump, fuel filter and crank shaft sensor but nothing helps. The spark plugs are still in good condition (bought a new set as well). One mechanic suggesting the air flow sensor is faulty. It is that so? Faulty only when the engine is still hot? The car can only be started (if I ma lucky) after some 10 to 15 times re-start. On the other hand the car will start with problem if it is left for long period of time until all system is cool down.Anyone have same problem? or it is true the air flow sensor?Help pleasess...

Noted comment by 'beemeeback' on Ignition Coil and 'andrewk' on Starter Motor faulty... How can we confirm this? Sorry guys since got bad experience of changing those not related to the problem....or that the only way..try and error..

When I had this issue it was solved with the replacement of a new original fuel pump (and off course, done by a very experienced mechanic).

My car starts like new now.

In your situation, I still think that its the pump. Try this, if you can't start it at the first instance, switch the ignition off completely. Then, turn to on (but don't crank it yet) and try to hear the "hissing" sound of the pump. When the hissing stops, then start.....try this my friend.

If your cars starts using this method, take a look at your "replaced" pump again.

you changed your petrol filter when you got the car ? when it's hot or running sometime, the filter get's clogged, hence the line suffocated....

do a cheaper fix to the solution, and move higher to solve it..

Thanks guys...I will look at both...and I still have the original pump with me...as for the filter i noticed clogging on the old filter...may be the fuel line is full with dirt before it reach the filter..I'll get it checked..I changed the filter after 2 or 3 months i got the car...when it suddenyly went dead while driving in slow traffic...

check idle valve.

How many miles have your Beemer clocked?
MAF sensors get problematic after a while and will induce the hot engine start problem which my E46 encountered. It's getting the fuel mix wrong which is why your engine can't start when hot.
The other likely problem is the idle control valve, but you didn't mention of any idling problems before or after encountering the start problem. Ask a mechanic with a spare working MAF sensor to do a quick swap to test.

All, finally i managed to sort the problem out after couple k RM...actually no problem at all to all other parts such as sensor, fuel pump, float, etc...after I had changed all those with a new one, the final diagnose went to the wiring and confirmed fuel pump wiring problem....thanks to Ah Keong at Bolton Industrial Park, Gombak..

So the car is with new parts...anyone want to buy original fuel pump, float...?
