It started some 6 months back but happened only once in few month, when my x5 suddenly won't start after a long drive shutdown. It will only start after the engine completely cool or after 10s or 12 times re-start if I am lucky. Since then I had changed the fuel pump and the filter. I'm lost now on what else to check, is it the float or the sensor for the crank shaft. Can any one share some lights here????

Beemerback's X5 has similar starting problem and he managed to rectify it recently.

Calling beemerback....

Since you have replaced the fuel pump and filter, change the crank sensor and all the ignition coils and plugs too.

Ok bro thanks for the tips....sure make a plan for it...changed to Ron 97 for now and on monitoring...

I had exactly the same problem with my E38. Turns out to be a faulty starter motor.
