wow, should have gone to your place instead.... RM400 for all these is a steal...

Consider reasonable lo..But a bit hassle which i had to collected the rims from Zak, went to tire shop, took out the existing one, part off all the tires, replaced the borrow one, sent the rims to WR. Once finished, all work reversed, balanced the rims and did alignment.

RM400 is good deal.

I will borrow a set of 16" from a friend who has upgraded to 18" on his E46 then send my 17" for refurbishment. No problem, fix the temp wheels and remove the tyres from the rims, can get that done for free at by buddy's shop. Balancing and Alignment gotta pay lah later.

Anyway, I am seriously thinking about downsizing from 225/45/R17 to 205/55/R16 if it improve acceleration/deceleration and consumption. I will have a chance to find out the weight difference between the 2 sets of wheels soon. Trying to reduce unsprung weight on the 4 corners. I read in Performance BMW mag that in Europe, those guys are downsizing.
Appreciate advice fro Sifu here.

Thanks

The reason that Wheel Recon is cheap is they are the kilang/factory for actually doing the work. Thats why they dont have the facility to remove tyres and such, they just concentrate on getting the wheel reconditioned.

Shops like MPS Auto is a tyre shop which sends their customer's tyre to other kilang as above, so they will mark up the price slightly. Say RM50 per tyre, its already RM200 for a full set. Cari makan maa mesti mau untung...

Dunno if MPS Auto actually have their own workshop to do their own wheel though?

Some pictures of the refurbished rims done at Wheel Recon will be great and appreciated.

Hi Guys,

Wow... i've been searching high and low for info on rims/wheels fixing in regards to scracthing. Today, my sis just accidentally drive over the kerb and my sports rim got scratched badly from contact with the brick kerb. My hati.... almost half came out but I know she didn't do it intentionally. Now.. i need to find a solution. This info I found is right about the solution I need to get my rims refurbished.

MPS Auto seems convenient since they also do the tyre removal and attachment later. But how about Wheel Recon.... can they fix deep scratch on rims/wheel surface which seems like polish alloy? Am I looking at RM150 to RM170 per rim/wheel?

Please advise... I need to get this done. I can't stand looking at the terrible scratch....

Thanks!

Not sure MPS, but WR need u to bring the rim yourself, he does not offer to borrow u temporary rim when u leave the rim in his shop.

How's the workmanship for Wheel Recon? If their workmanship is good, then.. of course it is worthwhile in terms of hassle of just bring the rim to them.

Anyone have any experience with them?

I send mine to a shop (Yap Recycle Tire with big Continental signboard) in Sri Damansara, nearby where Turbo Sang used to be located. From LDP towards Kepong, take the slip road where you will pass through Caltex Station. At traffic go straight, and turn left at second T-Junction traffic light. Go straight you will pass through McD and Shell station and take the second right which is actually a back road to get to rawang. You will pass through Industrial Area on your right, can see a big Mamak restaurant from the main road and the shop is one row behind.

The shop does refurbishing, straightening and they also sell rims and tires etc etc. They can even loan you a spare set of rims depending. As for price, it really depends on what work is being done, and the type of paint used.

Thats basically in front of my house.. I live behind that Shell with McD. How much they charge? I was quoted RM80 per wheel from Wheel Recon (also close to my house, less than 1km) for skimming surface (diamond cut) and 2k paint in between the spokes and the flat round surface behind the spoke (internal lip?). But need to take off tyre at a tyre shop and bring the rim only to them.
