Was using the local version of the BMW windscreen all this while, until a crack appeared and I was forced to change. As usual, the workshop recommended the local windscreen again, saying that it is cheaper and just as good.Decided to live dangerously and go against the advice. Got the original BMW windscreen from Germany. The differences:1. Ori German pricier than local version, of course, but not dramatically so2. No tint at the top for ori German vs. tinted blue at the top for local version3. QUIETER for ori German vs. NOISIER for local version, where wind noise is concernedI was impressed by the noticeably reduced windnoise. Where previously the wind was noticeable, it is now a whisper. Where previously it was positively howling and whistling, it is now a gentle murmur. Caveat, I am not sure whether the wind noise reduction was entirely due to a better quality windscreen, or whether the windscreen glue joint/lining was better done this time round. I remember my wind noise level has always been high previously (thinking all e36 was like that), and it is now noticable lower. If anyone is considering changing windscreens, I recommend giving the original version a try, esp if covered under insurance. Oh, and look for good windscreen installing workmanship. Took mine 2 hours, not 2 days as I read in another thread if done elsewhere at the official workshops (I suppose 2 days is to allow the glue to fully cure...) However, am taking the precaution of driving around like a retiree for the next few days just in case... no chassis-bending corners for now...

Lee36328,

Where did you changed the windscreen?
Any idea how much the ori glass cost?
Did you claim insurance for this?
How much you insured for windscreen?
Which insurance company?

tq..

Lee36328,

Where did you changed the windscreen? - workshop in PJ
Any idea how much the ori glass cost? - I think around RM2-3k++ all in, still waiting for bill
Did you claim insurance for this? Yes, I bought windscreen cover
How much you insured for windscreen? Up to you to insure, usually 2-3k iirc
Which insurance company? Don't think this makes a difference, windscreen claim shoud be quite straightforward

tq..

Answers above. Cheers.

Have you ever heard some insurance company require police report to claim for this?
Also some require you to go to only thier panel workshop to change it?
Did you pay first and going to claim for this damage later?
Are you going to claim by yourself or thru your insurance agent?

wan520i, police report usually not necessary but have to be examined by insurance co adjuster first and usually have to be done at their panel workshop.

Have you ever heard some insurance company require police report to claim for this? - Not required

Also some require you to go to only thier panel workshop to change it? - I've claimed before at a non-panel workshop, no problem.

Did you pay first and going to claim for this damage later? - Yes.

Are you going to claim by yourself or thru your insurance agent? - Claim myself, quite simple procedure.

OK.., no further question on claim issue.

Good thing I like about ori glass is its got no optical-wave..., i mean when you see thru the glass, something like wave effect. This happen especially on local/Thai glass.

About windnoise, are you sure previous winscreen got no air-leak?

Yeah, you're right about the wave effect - the ori windscreen is impressively clear.

That's the thing, I'm not sure whether there was air-leak in my previous windscreen, as I stated. It was wind-noisy for as long as I can remember since installing it abt 3 years back tho...

Changed my windscreen on my SLOTH a few months back from the original BMW windscreen to the local one. The original windscreen was bad scratched and certain areas were pitted. A hazard to use especially at night and when its raining. Took half-day to have the windscreen changed.

I did not discern any difference in terms of soundproofing between the original BMW and local windscreen. Well, my speeds are generally, ahem, at the national speed limit and "slightly" higher. There might be some difference if I were to go above 200+ kmh (which is above the capabilities of SLOTH anyway).

So Lee, you might have had an air leak in your old windscreen.

I just changed my original windscreen at RM 1700(all in) at Kayu Ara workshop. My insurance only cover RM 1500.
