Why Lexus ? Why not Mercedes instead ?

I am sorry for opening too many threads, LOL, I might have to stop after this, but I guess I came here to learn. okay, I see many people saying Lexus is the next best car after BMW's. Why is that ? Why not a Mercedes ?

I can’t help but to notice your new thread in the BMW Talk section of the forum. I don’t mean to be rude but we are the BMW Club Malaysia and the forum is dedicated to BMW enthusiasts and those who wish to learn more about the marque. Basically, we talk BMW!

I’m sure you can find your answers from comparing notes of both Lexus and Mercedes from their respective sites.

let me share you my experience. i once went for a trip to perth and made small conversation with a mat salleh there at the airport waiting for the same flight to KL. i was quite surprise he was having a beer at 10.30am and asked which locally made beer is best in australia...

"every state in australia has its locally brewed beer, mate" said the nice aussie. "foster's is good....victoria bitter is good....XXXX is good...uh..basically they're all good mate!!"

Moral of the story..."Merc is GOOD...Lexus is GOOD...BMW is GOOD...!!!"

(sorry mates, something is not right ere. never seen a guy who wants to know everything and anything about cars and seems to want to buy everything too. aaron 77, if you want to know more, suggest you spend more time with the car salemen and we'll see how long that last when you ask too many questions and buy nothing at the end of the day. as i'm not getting a commission if aaron77 does buy a bimmer, i'm buggering off)

arron, i think u listen too much comparison among your friends or from car articles about A is better than B or maybe B is better than C, hence u have doubt and cant make up your mind on which to buy. Go for E60 since u love it so much. u mention in your tread below

Have u ever hear us saying Lexus is better than Merc? Lexus stands for "Luxury Export to US", a division of Toyota is designed to compete with the European marque in the US market, in particularly BMW. It's a very quiet car, very reliable car and that's about all I can think off.

U should ask those who made that statement.. other than my E90, my next best car is VW GTI FSI DSG.. and Lexus IS250 is far down my list, even Camry rank higher..

Conclusion, Lexus are for those who already have BMWs and Mercs at home and still have spare cash to burn.. I told the same to the sales girl at Lexus showroom at Mutiara Damansara..

no no... I am NOT interested to buy a Lexus, I only Love BMW's just like all of you.

But the thing is!!! , I see many and I read many people saying if Auto Bavaria does not improve their service and all that, you will all start buying Lexus. And some people even start recommending Lexus to Keeekeee. So that got me wondering whats so great about Lexus ? I was wondering why none of you said go buy Mercedes instead.

But I guess, I already got the information now.

A question means a question, and there's no such things as a stupid question. A Lexus already perfected the electronics in its fleet whereas Mercedes is still learning. Mercedes made a huge jump from the venerable W124 model to W211 model when it comes to electronics. Hence, the reliability or their electronics is questionable, whereas the electronics in a BMW advances progressively. I got a strange feeling however, that the electronics in a Lexus is number one at this stage.

Well. Maybe Lexus is tough to beat BMW and Merc in the engineering department. So there's one secret weapons they could use...Asian hospitality...we beat the European flat in this department in any business out there. So that why Lexus position services...services...services and comfort.

Mate, just go test drive the cars and find out for yourself. Put on some nice clothes, borrow someone's car so they don't see you pull up in an Iswara and talk confidently, then go try them out. We could sit here and talk from now till forever and it won't make any difference till you drive the cars and find out which one is for you. Who knows maybe you'll prefer the feel of the Lexus, Merc, whatever, nothing wrong with that. As much as I like BMW, I think you'd be crazy to so much money on one just based on our words and without also trying out the competition.

Everyone knows AB and Sapura have generally poor service
though Ingress seems to have gotten good reviews so far.

i have sat in a lexus before, even the new one.. sat only.. not for test drive nor passenger ..
from my observation, the lexus seams well built and have come a long way from the cheap Jap plastics and shoggy knobs...
AFAIK, the jap cars these days, especially the Toyota's is very reliable .. costs a lot too for parts...etc, etc...

the Only thing 'WHY' own a BMW... it's the handling... the Ultimate Driving Machine..

Test one today, any models, you will be itchy to have one immediately..
the X5 drives like a car...

Seconded. Lexus and Mercs are passenger's car, nothing much to brag about la. If I was to go for a driver's car, I can only compare the UDM (numero uno la :rock to Audis, Alfas, and maybe Saabs. Don't think anything else comes near.

Wise old man once told me this, when you drive a UDM the only ride you can compare yours with is the predecessor :burnout:

there are cars with better handling than BMWs.. in my view,where BMW excels is BALANCE.

u can have the best handling car in the world,sticks to the road like its on rails/glue etc,but if the ride is shitty/wooden,hyper-stiff,i would come to nothing wouldn't it?this applies to a lot of Jap performance cars.in the real world,on real Malaysian roads,give me a 330i over an Evo or an STi anyday.

BMWs are well known for sublime handling at and beyond the limits of adhesion.also,as a RWD car,has very good chassis weight distribution and also good traction.it combines this with superb damping under all conditions.i mean,how do u explain a superior spec'd C63 with its superb 7-sp box and grunty 6.2 V8 trounced by an M3 which is down by almost 40bhps and a whopping 200Nms of torque?

u can build Protons that go faster than say a 330i in a straight line for a tiny fraction of the cost,but can it make u feel like a BMW can?

Lexus is a fine choice of a car..as an A-B car,it'll cosset u with superb refinement and comfort,its multitude of gadgets and what not.but when u take it by the scruff of its neck and drive it in anger,it'll fall to pieces very very quickly indeed.Mercs are almost the same,albeit that lil'bit better in the handling department.
