comparing an E60 to an Accord..? how did those two get to be in the same sentence anyway?

I know...but because a 2005 E60 525i is costing as much as a new brand new Honda Accord 2.4 VTi-L. That's why I compare em two. ;D

I dont think u can save a lot from changing parts if u acquire an 2004 e60. The e60 is full of electronic thingy compare to e39. I never own an e60 but i believe the parts price is a bit higher than e39.

Normally the e39 owners stay for e39 because the sexy body line, at least for me.

bmw7833, I think you didn't read me correctly. What I actually meant was that a mechanic told me that if I were to buy a older BMW model (such as E39), there maybe lots of worn parts that need changing if I do not want the hassles of having to go to the workshops every so often.

BTW, thanks for highlighting E39 has less electronics than E60 to me. ;-)

Go go go, you might even be tempted to buy a diesel [320d, 520d] once you test drive one...

I hope not...at least not until my bank account catches up with the temptations.
I don't want to have to eat maggie mee for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hahaha

if you like driving, you will think this way after owning a bmw.
"Driving can be this fun?" "I should have got myself 1 earlier instead of trying this & that, arh...!"

Guess what, I don't think I have use cruise control for more then 5times of my car, coz driving it is so fun, I dowan to spoil it.

Also, unless really important stuff, or when I am infront of traffice light, i ignore phone calls and messages. "Get out of my way! I am in the middle of enjoying my drive"

Driving, can be very personal.

Same here. I've never used the auto cruise on my Accords also (except to try it out for the first time).

Even though an used or recon e60 costs about similar to a brand new Accord, the e60 when new costs more than 400k, similarly the E39 costs more than 300k those days. So be prepared for relatively hefty repair bills. If you are fine with that then by all means go for it, it sure brings joy to driving:)

ya thats the part that most ppl didnt consider when buying second or multiple hand BMW...since BMW losses its value fairly fast and by the 4 or 5th year could be the same price as some new japs sedan, the maintenance costs of the car does not depreciates...so when you buy a 170k+ E60 don't expect to pay on parts for cars that worth 170k...

Honda Tak Guna, BMW sucks Banyak Makan Wang.

Cuntchill better, sextification priceless!

Thanks everybody for all your inputs. Really2 appreciate.

Think I'll settle for a E39 first so as to get familiar with every/all things BMW first.
So which year and/or variant of E39 you guys suggest I should go for IF I also plan to change it to manual trans later?

Thanks once again.

If you have RM175K, I think it's better for you to buy a new Accord instead of a 7 year old BMW unless you have some extra budget to spend for a newer E60. When a car is 7 years old and no matter how good it is, there are definitely parts going off (wear & tear) so that again will cost you $$$ to fix. A little bit here and there, you will eventually end up thousands in the bill. Just my 2 cents.

P/S: I'm a previous Accord owner :)

comparing those two on the basis of price means you're not a BMW (or even an automobile) enthusiast. you should take this discussion to a non-car related forum, perhaps an online personal finance consulting website; please have respect towards the folks here.

p/s - i highly doubt a BMW is for you.

bro mizhan...i think almost everyone who have not fall for the BMW does this consideration before their affair with the brand takes off...then there is no return...

so i hope we could encourage rather than discouraging people coz i believe everyone like you, me and everyone here has been thru some sort of the same situation with some exception...hehehehehe

you good cop, me bad cop. btw bro, how much does the water pump on your E39 cost ah..?

hehehe...strategy ma...hehehe

if not mistaken rm1800...still cheaper than the one on the N52 engine...AB price...

Hi all, I'm new to this forum so I hope you guys will be gentle with me. :)

As I'm undecided which of the two cars below to buy, I would like advice from all of you sifus here with regards to which one of them is more reliable: BMW E60 525i or Honda Accord 2.4 VTi-L?

Because from what I gather, correct me if I'm wrong, it seems that our climate is not too kind to BMW engines, so much so radiator water leakage seem to be quite a common problem here. Transmission gear slippage, ATF oil leakage and what not also quite prevalent.

As my budget is only RM175K maximum, I can only buy, maybe, a 2004-6 E60 M Sport 525i whereas for the same amount I can get myself a brand new Accord. Unfortunately, I love driving, therefore I'm tempted to go for the BM to have a taste of the UDM's handling. My concern is the hefty BM bills later.

Please kindly advise. Thanks in advance.

Hi Sevenor,
Asking which car is more problematic, in this case BMW E60 vs Accord 2.4, in a BMW forum.........you will definitely get answers that sides BMW's.
But then again, the driving experience you get in BMW's is totally different than Honda. If your main concern is realibility, repair cost, resale value & etc.... then think twice.
But if you enjoy/love driving & passionate about cars, trust me, you will definitely find it in a well sorted BMW.
You will need to spend more time with BMW once you own it aka TLC.
I bought my 1st BMW 8 months ago. Yes, repair bills are higher than my previous Cefiro but it is justified because of the satisfaction i get when i drive it. Why? All of us are passionate about cars.
In terms of engine technology, safety, handling, sound proofing & comfort, my 13 year old beemer is leaps & bounds ahead of a new Accord. The best part, purchasing price of my beemer compared to a new 2.4 accord is 1/3 of the price.
There is also another factor, branding.......... i think i don't have to explain this.
True Story: My friend who owns 2.4 Accord, after test drove my car, he concluded his new accord is no match to my 13 year old beemer.
And the best part, you have this forum, whereby u can ask/seek advice from the sifu's here when you need help. It will save u a lot time & money when it comes to repair. I have benefitted from the forummers here.

FYI, I went through the same dilemma. I made my choice & never regretted it!!!!!:top:

Cefiro 3.0L Brougham ah? :vroam:

If you really have to settle with a japanese car. Mazda 6 2.5, CBU, full option is the closest you can get. Forget about others.

This is another car put a smile on your face, especially the 1st gen Mazda6, it beat every other Japanese car interms of handling and chassis. Steering is sharp, but still it's a FWD.

Beemers, don't fire me first ah, pls go on to the next paragraph.

When I upgrade, I know very well I have to move on to a RWD with 50;50 chassis, dat is my E46 325. This fellow doesn't put a smile on my face. Instead, it makes me yell in the car during the first few weeks of my ownership. I kept yelling "WOW"! "Yohoo!" "YeeHaa", while dring, though, everything is standard.:top:

Well said Garfield bro. :p

PS: Btw, coming for Subang TT this week? Do join us!

Hei, Bro, it's tonight right? A drink at Subang is OK but I am afraid the next session may be tough on me. I have a long day tomorrow, having guest around. Also, I am changing my windscreen today. Day before yesterday kena a batu kaukau at 140km/h. After my lunch, it spread fast, so have to change liao... Luckingly I am covered.
