We love the Bavarian company, we know it is on top for a reason, but we can’t just ignore that sometimes they make mistakes as well. The chief authority on everything recall has brought forward an announcement according to which over 30.000 vehicles built by BMW and spread over a large range of models.

Affected models are the BMW 5 Series, the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo, the BMW 7 Series, the BMW X5 and the BMW X6, all of which share some of the affected engines. The engines at hand are BMW’s turbocharged V8 and V12 powerplants which may be subjected to to a failure within the circuit boards.

It seems like these days the electronics are killing cars more than shoddy repairs or anything of the likes are. In the case of the BMW recall, there’s a circuit board that controls the electric auxiliary water boards that are prone to overheating. That, in return could lead to the pump smoldering and, eventually, to an engine compartment fire. Not exactly the best of news but there’s a small chance of it so BMW has to take action.

I drive the smallest IL6 BMW Offering now and soon this engine/car will make obsolete.

Bro CK318ci,

Your venerable N52B25 is a tried and tested workhorse - smooth as silk, creamy as a pint of Guinness and hardworking like a suicidal Chinaman in a Foxconn factory hehehe... sometimes, getting so called 'older technology' isn't exactly a bad thing. I for one, don't like to rush out to buy the latest, biggest, baddest - because half the time, that'll also mean plenty of heartache when recalls are announced. I remember when the N54 came out - waaah, twin turbo, powderful sia ... then, high pressure fuel pump failure, California class suit action ... really scared me off the N54. Remembering Singapore don't have consumer protection laws like in the States leh...

So, I'm happy chugging along with older, more proven technology. Not one for keeping up with the Joneses, and I can see you're of the same opinion :)

Yes... always go for the proven track records...

Saw a 523I F11 in Black this morning heading to work...
wonderful sight.

Wish I'll be able to afford one next time- 535I M sport F11
