Just want to share some infors to all of u regarding the "Wax n Polish". According to fren of mine which is a car specialist that if your car is Wax n Polish frenquenly,it will damage ur paint badly cos,1.The wax machine will make ur paint thiner.2.90% of the wax n polish products are oily based. When apply to the paint surface,it will look shinning and nice. But when the car is under a hot sun + high engine temp,it will melt slowly and the dust will stay in the oily surface. If rainny day,the mixture of dirt as mentioned above will go deep into the paint. This the main cause of the water stain appear almost every cars and it's very hard to remove it.What the solution? According to him, use the water based instead of oily based products. According to him, now a day, all japanese prefer water based products cos it's won't damage the car paint. Hope the infors is useful for u guys.

Firstly, there must be a very clear definition between wax and polish.

Wax is generally a protective coat that is non-abrasive and therefore will do no harm to your car's paint. It is true that some of the waxes on the market are oil based and do attract dust but is easily removed when the car is shampoed. Water based waxes evaporate under 30mins under hot sun! BTW, Wax is always applied by hand and never by machine!

The best wax to use is generally any product that has high Carnuba content and avoid any product containing silicone as it actually dulls paint in the long run due to premature drying.

Polish is abrasive and works by removing a thin microscopic layer of the paint/clearcoat to clean the surface and remove light surface defects. It can be deduced that prolonged repetitive use of polish will thin your paint BUT damage will only occur if it is used/applied wrongly. Proper polishing can be achieved by both hand and machine methods but if either is not done correctly, surface/paint damage WILL occur! This is best left to professionals.

I think that your friend has been highly misinformed on the proper steps and terminology related to automitive detailing.

Hope this helps.
