Upgrade to M54B30 or stroker kit way?

My E39 with M54B25 is showing sign require at least top overhaul. Recently stranded due to expansion tank cracked and temp shoot up. Managed to pulled over. After changed, expansion tank, radiator and water pump, I get cylinders misfire during cold start and top hose hardened. Suspected water seep in already. However compression test does not really indicate water gushing out from spark plug housing when cranked. But then, I guess immediate remedy is top overhaul and being told in the region of 3k. Since my mileage just passed 200k km and have to top up engine oil in between service, i have been persuade to do complete overhaul as well. No quotation yet. It makes me thinking might as well I upgrade performance of my engine to at least M54B30. Some suggest maintain M54B25 but use stroker kit way. Some say, if upgrade M54B30, I need to upgrade ECU too. If not engine will be lean. Some say, stoker kit is hassle as need to bore block and performance is comparable with M54B30. I do have limited budget, but advise on best approach and best place to do it is very much welcome.
 
M54B25 and M54B30 bore is the same 84mm so there is no need to bore out the block. Difference is only the stroke M54B25 75.0mm compared to M54B30 89.6mm. So you can actually just take the internals from a B30 and plonk it into your B25. Please verify this.
There are other differences between the B25 and B30 apart from the displacement so a stroker kit into your B25 won't give you the same power, unless you put in a 3.2 :cool: Do check this website out http://www.e46fanatics.com/faq/m54engine.html

In March 2013, I put in a 3 litre stroker kit for e39 M54B25 plus a complete overhaul of the engine. Items for the 3 litre stroker kit :-

1. 6 x M54B30 piston c/w connecting rod
2. 6 x M54B30 fuel injector
3. 2 x M54B30 camshaft
4. 1 x M54B30 crankshaft
5. 1 x ZF5HP19 - 3.0 litre torque converter

You do not need to change the ECU and instead a re-map will be fine. Call me if you need further info.

Does the hp generated by installing stroker kit and remap the same as e39 530i?

If compared with a standard new e39 530i, could well be the same HP. Also bearing in mind that I had the M54B25 engine completely overhauled. Have also made comparison with my e60 530i M54B30. The e39 525i M54B25 stroked up engine seems faster than the e60 530i M54B30. Time to do something with the e60.
