hello sifus, need advice. i drive an e46 320i. i thought of getting underdrive pulleys for my baby but need to know the pros and cons from anybody who has used them. also advise on what brand? which pulleys did u change? did it make any sounds, make the belts wear faster? as i know some brands only changed the alternator, water pump and aircond compressor pulleys? but theres someone offering me crank aluminium pulleys from Redline, from what i know bmw OEM crank pulleys or main pulleys are already light and balanced...need advice tq...

Since original one is light and balanced then why spend money to change unnecessary thing. How good after change?

thats what i wanna know? some reputable brands like UUC or Turner Motorsport offer underdrive pulley kits that are interesting...

A slight mis-balance can result in overhauling the engine, besides the gain in power is insignificant.. my advice is to stay away. Stay original is the best policy.

astroboy, noted... but lets say i only change the water pump and power steering pulleys... will it effect my engines balancing? the crank pulley is the one that has the harmonic dampers rite?

oh ok, i didnt mean OEM pulleys. what i mean is underdrive pulleys are designed to drive a cars accessory ( alternator, water pump, power steering and etc ) at a slower speed... this reduces the engines parasitic drag in turn increases engine HP and torque...

bro jep3003, you sure it increases the engine's HP and torque..?? and is dat gona be an obvious effect or at a very minimal range?

I dont know to others but when i change the whole set of those ... i spend less than RM600 well the parts i bought myself (from reputable supplier) and the mech only charged me RM 50 for the whole work since it fairly easy work TBH... since the belt tensioner is easier to install compared to the other cars...

Bro i think the original pulley is already much better than whatever you want to fit in there... mind you the material for our UDM are already optimised for its engine... we are not talking about Proton here...

BUT given the real Under pulley done by people who know what they are doing then you can really increase ur BHP

PLUS you need to change the whole cooling system to be electrical and that will reduce the need for the engine to turn those fans...

Im no expert but this is a fact i guess...

but look at these...

engine_udpullies_lg.jpg

Kit includes water pump, power steering, alternator pulleys and belt. The T-6061 hard anodized aluminum pulleys account for a 10 to 20-percent decrease in accessory speeds, reducing the load on the engine but still maintaining a safe margin for reliability on all components. Installation involves removing the fan for easy access to the front of the engine. The main drive belt comes off easy and each pulley is mounted with Allen head bolts. Typical installation time is 1.5 hours. New main drive belt is included. The pulleys were good for 10.7hp at 6960 rpm and 8.1 lb-ft of torque at 5550 on the 1995 M3.

nope im not sure, thats why im asking first here... adverts surely say that their product is good and no problems... but i would rather listen to someone with experience

hi

I will be upgrading my e46 m3 with evosport underdrive pulleys which consist of water pump pulley, steering pump pulley and belt. It actually doesn't increase HP but gain back the lost HP from the stock pulleys.
