Hi everyone..I've just joint the club and wish someone can just the provide me some possible reasons why my recent acquired e36 318,1997 model seem to be extremely under power. Top speed just merely around 170km/h and the torque (pick-up) is simply to poor where even any small car can easily overdo me.

get your car checked ... usually as for a 4 potter you may reach 190 ~ 200 kmh ...

could be due to your AFM , plugs and many more factors ..

if need power get a 325 or 328 ...6 potter

i tested few 318 before...
is normal to be underpower i guess......

one way to get power is change the final drive..
my previous owner change it...
but this will make u loose more top speed, in return u get more pickup...

i use s button when i need power, but they said its use more fuel but i dont have idea about it

bro, did you test drive the car before you bought it? is it that much difference in power? the 318 97 i used to drive was under powered. from what you've been sharing, you seem to be terribly disappointed with the power. you should have gotten a 328....

the torque should be enough for daily drive.. or even going up genting with 5 adults in the car..

318 under power

Bro bullari, i'm oso using the same ride as yours e36 318 97' model. If I'm not mistaken 318
normally under power at the starting point. But, I try to manipulate it by changing the lower
gear D1,D2,D3 then D4, try to treat it as manual car, just for fun, syiok syiok only. But I do
it once a while, don't want to take the risk to make my gearbox long lasting... huhuh...:listen:

May be our Sifus can give the comments, by doing that regularly, what is the consequences.

I did try switching off my air-cond especially when climbing up hill and it goes reasonably well but I dont intend to do that all the time, Is there any other alternative that I can do to improve it?

change the exhaust system.. use AC Schnitzer like mine :). Change your air filter to open Pod breather or Sport drop in filter. change fuel filter to new one. Change to sport perfomance cam and cam pulley. and lastly install a supercharger unit just like mine oso! haha>:D but the power gain still sucks... so... buy a 328!

aiyo. how much u spend for that mod bro? I'd swap for a 2.5 motor then..

Bro chairoger, just kind a curious, r u using e36 318 oso and u can hit 200kmh?
izit easily u can hit 200kmh or took longer time to hit it?
Any upgrade on the engine stuffs? Just want to know. Thanks.

Plain vanilla E36 318i. Long time to reach 200kmh but not impossible if the highway is relatively straight. Cant squeeze anything more than 200kmh though no matter how hard I try. Time for new Bimmer. keke

..or swap with 2.5 engine:wink:

the other option is to get the 318IS engine ....baby M3 ! easier
on the road tax & puspakom registration .

actually the M42 can chip and "mechanically" tune to 205HP @ 7250rpm on N.A mode...:34: redline at 7700 rpm, imagine the extra 1200rpm allow the e36 318i to go beyond 210km/h !!!! serious!!! :34:, he he he... because nobody know how to do it and not enough budget, even worst the TAX kill it...:34: in Malaysia., soo; everybody there were just only experianced with the japanese 240SX/200SX/SILVIA/VTEC/MIVEC/VTTI ???....:34:

if put in the FORCE INDUCTION...it will goes to 300 Biological Horse Power....:34:
