Thanks alot Sachseelan!!!!

Mr. Check will be doing the suspension for me on Saturday ....phew ...... and he's giving me a very decent price .... feel so lucky and relieved at the moment ......

(My old mechanic is full and although could squeeze me in ... he cannot return the car to me on Saturday ...... was so worried .......)

Thanks again to everyone for all your input and help! Very much appreciated!

Good to know Terri.. i usually go there on Saturdays too... but this Sat im working, i will try to drop by if time allows... anyway i suggest you go first thing in the morning(9-10am)... as he gets quite busy on Sat's... do update us on the status...

Update

Went to the chop shop yesterday to pick up my front shocks ... surprisingly in decent condition.... the owner gave me the struts, springs etc complete up till the mountings ..... only the aux damper was disintegrating ... everything else in surprisingly good condition .... (alot of spares now......) the owner of the chop shop sent a worker with me to carry the shocks to my office located about 300m away ...... talk about great service from a chop shop no less .... (sometimes it's nice being a damsel in distress .... hehehe)

Went to Bavian Auto yesterday also,to pick up the new parts ... wah!!!! my rear shocks were not available .... out of stock (heart attack!!!!) but after some frantic calls..... a pair was finally located and i'll get them today hopefully..... anyway already paid for them in advance, so i hope they will be ready for me to collect later today ...... can faint .....

hopefully, i'll have everything ready for mr.check tomorrow......

Finally, the suspension is installed ....phew

No longer feel like i'm driving a taxi, my car feels like a BMW again ...... so very happy!

I'll post the labour charges etc in the sticky, the labour cost a total of RM700 including 2 O-Rings but everything in total cost me RM2180 including engine oil etc so i just managed to stay within my budget and i'm really happy about that ....

Note : Had to really fight to get the labour charges down and i was actually charged RM880 for labour alone and the 2 O-Rings cost RM16 for both (Total RM896) however, in the end, Mr. Check agreed to reduce all the charges and gave me a very good deal on everything .......

Wish you had been there Sachs ..... would have saved me alot of bargaining .... was also lucky that my partner was there throughout and knew exactly what work was done ......

Recomendations
1)This workshop isn't very full so it's a good place to go to if you need to get work done immediately
2)To save having to bargain after the work is completed, if you know what you want done, get the labour quote upfront
Doesn't apply tho if like me, you are uncertain about the cause of a problem .....
3)Mr. Check gets a 9 out of 10 for knowledge and service (very nice man, he lost a point because he doesn't supervise his mechanics constantly - he only supervises at the start and when the workers have a problem)
4)The mechanics are also very nice and helpful - also if you are not satisfied and ask them to re-do something, they will and they don't complain about it

Overall, i'm quite satisfied with the job that they did

(Some new problems cropped up tho .... sigh
1)the brake lights including 3rd brake light now all constantly 0n
2)my door auto lock now only activates at 40kmph when it used to activate at 10kmph
Also haven't done the alignment yet - waiting for the new suspension to sit properly
The idle is now rough and i need to do a service ..... sigh)

so, was RM800 by BMWorld Desa Pandan expensive in the first place since your labour cost here was RM880 prior to negotiations? AFAIK, they charge based on units (similar to AB/Sapura). I don't go there for labour intensive stuff. I don't think I've ever been charged this much for any service done at any workshop even when my bill touched 5 figures :)

terri ..as long as you're happy wif their work ..then i think it's fine

i've been charged rm 70 bucks just to install an alternator which i bought from the mechanic ....remove only 3 screws ...sighhhhh

worse still i had the same problem persist on the very next day ..called up and told but was advise to use it as the light stop popping out ...

then after some time ...both ABS and TRANS light came out ...and sigghhhh the alternator was not being replace not repaired , but infact a long story next ....

so had to get another set else where ...

darm paid twice for the same thing ......

YES..... :top:

I was charged RM150 for spring changing(thought u can change the shock at the same time), also changing gearbox fluid(spring and gear oil i brought myself). However, mine is E34, and mayb u got change alot more thing than me...

The item by item bill is posted under that maintenance sticky ..... and yes sachs after the bargaining , the prices were reasonable ......

Update
Balanced and rotated the tyres and did the alignment at SiangHin Jln Tun Razak
(Balancing RM6 per tyre and alignment RM35 Total Bill RM59)

The foreman was really nice and changed my air filter and crankcase breather hose for free .... no labour charges and i supplied the parts .......
He also didn't charge me for checking for new leaks and to look over the new suspension
Ouch!!! he found the hoses to the steering pump??/or motor?? leaking !!!!!! Ouchies......... sigh .......
Here we go again .......

He couldn't fix the brake light switch or do the tuning tho as he said they didn't have the right tools but he was extremely helpful ...

a tyre shop at PJS charged me RM120 to replace all four shocks on my E30, and RM150 to change my E34 springs. all barangs i brought..

thx mizhan...:top:

mine was $300 for changing all 4 shocks, mountings and dampers...

damn, why didnt i think of my tyre shop?? should have been cheaper... send 2 bmw mechanic pulak..!!

just change my springs with an eibach prokit last week n dey charged me RM100.00 only...:top:

Way too expensive. My regular mech did all of the above for RM300+2 teh tarik and 1 plate mee goreng.

Sigh... whenever a workshop sees an old lady coming ...... the labour charges suddenly increase ......

also my car has a very nice number plate and any chinese shop which sees it...... prices for everything also suddenly increase .......

my business partner normally helps me to source parts etc and makes sure my car is very far away when she buys the stuff .......

that's the only explaination i can think of for the high charges .......
