Those searching high & low for LSD, your search is over (but your wallet will suffer). See what I found at http://www.quaife.co.uk/products/atbdifferentials.htm :Suitable as a replacement for any rear or four wheel drive application, these differentials have the added benefit of no adverse effect on the steering of a front wheel drive vehicle. The ATB differentials are widely used from Formula 1 to emergency vehicles and public utilities where all weather mobility is essential. Available to suit a very wide range of vehicles, including Ford, BMW, Mercedes, Land Rover/Range Rover and light commercials. The differential progressively locks as torque increases; there are no plates or clutches to wear out as more conventional limited-slip designs. Is particularly effective in combating the effects of FWD torque steer. The QUAIFE Automatic Torque Biasing Differential enables your car to accelerate quicker and corner faster. How? By getting the power to the ground! The QUAIFE Differential powers both drive wheels under nearly all conditions, instead of just one. With an ordinary open differential, standard on most cars, a lot of precious power is wasted during wheel spin under acceleration. This happens because the open differential shifts power to the wheel with less grip, along the path of least resistance. The QUAIFE, however, does just the opposite. It senses which wheel has better grip, and biases the power to that wheel. It does this smoothly and constantly, and without ever completely removing power from the other wheel. In cornering, while accelerating out of a turn, the QUAIFE biases greater power to the outside wheel, reducing inside-wheel spin. This allows the driver to begin accelerating earlier, exiting the corner at a higher speed. The QUAIFE also controls loss of traction when the drive wheels are on slippery surfaces such as ice and snow or mud, providing the appropriate biased traction needed to overcome these adverse conditions. The QUAIFE ATB Differential provides constant and infinitely variable drive. Power is transferred automatically without the use of normal friction pads or plates seen in other limited-slip designs. The QUAIFE'S unique design offers maximum traction, improves handling and steering, and puts the power where it is needed most. A definite advantage whether on the track or on the street. The QUAIFE is extremely strong and durable and since the Quaife is gear operated, it has no plates or clutches that can wear out and need costly replacement. The QUAIFE is great for street driving or racing. Racers don't have to put up with locking mechanisms or spools that tear the steering wheel out of their hands when cornering. Because it behaves like an open differential during ordinary driving, street drivers will have trouble telling it's there until pushing the cars limits. The QUAIFE has been proven in everything from SCCA Rally to Formula 1. It provides autocrossers with such an advantage, it has become "required" equipment for a winning effort. Available for :BMW 2002, 318i, 320i BMW Z3 4 cyl, 318ti (E36 compact) BMW 325i (E30,E36), 525–535I (E28,E34), 633–635csi, 735i BMW M3 4 cyl (E30), M3 6 cyl (E36), Z3 6 cylinder BMW 325e (E30), 528e (E28), 328i (E36) BMW M5, M6, V12 BMW 540i (E39) Mini Cooper S MK3 drive flange Mini Cooper S and many more!

BUY BUY BUY......

They also make gearboxes.....so anyone game for 7speed? Dog leg also can! he he!

If you have the $$$ there is nothing you cannot repair or replace. After all, the car is just a piece of mechanical device. But the justification of the replacement. Example a good condition E30 will only fetch like 2-3K USD. A new tranny will cost around 1k which isclose to 50% of the price of the car.

if you are looking at LSD and rear diff... check out DiffsOnline...

they can do any ratio for many model... even if it's not a stock ration... :nyehehe: :nyehehe:

This is the pricing for Quaife LSD :

BMW 325i (E30, E36), 525-535i (E28, E34),633-635csi, 735i QDF2N £660.00

Quaife is only useful if you are into PROFESSIONAL racing!. I checked this issue out about 2 years ago for my E34 when I was modding it for track. Not worth it la!. Just the pinion gears alone cost USD 1100. Now the rest of the diff needs mod to make the whole thing work. Only from ex-racing people can you get a diff made with Quaife. Very nice technology but LSD is very very good for most already.

Just like, chrome plated already very good, you want gold plated ?. Huh.
;)

I'm currently testing my open diff to LSD conversion using my spare 4.10 rear diff... Let me call it Pseudo-LSD....

so far so good, it doesn't lock up that much but good enuf for my spirited driving.... and it's simple and cheap.. hehehhe... good traction for standing start as I can feel the traction going to both rear wheels and the car feels as planted as if it's on LSD at the corners (I got an actual LSD to compare it with)

I took the rear diff apart myself and added my custom thingy and fitted it back... ;) not at all that difficult....

Fabian,

If you can find an old AUdi Torsen Diff, there might be parts in it you can use. I understand the europeans use the same OEM to do the manufacturing of the internal components.

Would be great if you can get a torsen equivalent functioning. Good luck.
