At the limits or in an emergency, dude. Sure, anyone can drive to Tesco and back - but what do you do when you lose the rear at a round about unexpectedly on a rainy night? More pressure at the rear lessens (not eliminates) this risk. Safer for the average joe....

true is true mate... anyway, mind sharing what pressure you use? i think bottom line, we all want to have a safe drive... :D

i am not sure, but i think as long as your tyre size is correctly stated in the sticker, just follow the recommended pressure, not sure if the type and weight of rim have any effect on the recommended tyre pressure.

mmm now have to really go and check the sticker... aiya excited but will only be back in 3 days time...

PARAMETER----TO INCREASE UNDERSTEER----TO INCREASE OVERSTEER
Front Tire Pressure-----Lower----------------------Higher
Rear Tire Pressure-----Higher----------------------Lower
Front Tire Width-------Smaller---------------------Larger
Rear Tire Width--------Larger----------------------Smaller

bro out of curiosity, why someone wants to have understeer drivin condition?

Lesser pressure doesnt always mean bigger contact patch. During emergencies, what do you usually do? You hit the brakes hard. So all the momentum goes to the tyres and in particular the sidewalls. So what happens in a soft, squishy underinflated tyres? It caves in in the middle of the contact patch. (Its a bit hard to describe without a picture or diagram) Thats why you usually see skid marks having two dark lines per wheel or side - just before it ends at the armco.

Higher pressure provides for more tyre stability from deformation so comparatively, you get a better, firmer, more even contact patch (therefore better grip) when you hit the brakes or at the limits. Only offset is that you have a slightly more bumpy ride on KL roads. (Oh yeah, you reduce the risk of a blowout or wheel damage if you have more pressure when you hit a bad pothole - something we all face in a 3rd world country...)

Hope that explains. If not, im sure someone else who can explain well will jump in.

3er, thanks for the explanation. I am clear now

I don't think it's to introduce a predominatly understeering car, more likely it's just for minor corrections of an overtly oversteering car.... perhaps?

Let just say you are a good driver, car enthusiast and all that by attending driver training, track days, etc. You maintain and adjust the settings on your car the way you like it - neutral or maybe with a hint of oversteer. Then one day your mother /sister (non car enthusiast) decides to borrow it to go somewhere just because her car is in the workshop having its Service B done (and you cant really say NO). So in the interest of her safety you dial in more understeer for her. So whats the quickest way without going to your favourite workshop to fiddle with your multi adjustable suspension and antiroll bar? You reduce front tyre pressure.... (or increase rear tyre pressure if you have a mini air pump or both).

(See scin's reply above - same thing)

tyres

Tyres
Check your tyre pressure regularly. This is important for safety reasons as it's dangerous to drive on tyres at the wrong pressure.

The pressure is best checked when the tyres are cold. If you drive a few miles to a garage to use a tyre pressure gauge, you'll get a false reading as pressure is higher on hot tyres. If the only way you can check is to drive to a garage, wait a few minutes to allow the tyres to cool before measuring the pressure.

The correct tyre pressure for your car will be shown in the owner's manual. Some cars also show this information on the inside of the petrol cap. The details may be shown in pounds per square inch (psi) or bars. It is usual for the pressure on front and back tyres to be different.

If a tyre's pressure is low, you'll need to inflate it until it reaches the right pressure. If the tyre is over inflated, you can reduce the pressure by pressing the pin in the centre of the tyre valve.

You should also check the tread on your tyres regularly as it's illegal, as well as being extremely dangerous, to drive on worn tyres. The minimum legal tread depth is 1.6mm.

To check the tread, you'll need a tyre gauge or your tyres may have a tread wear indicator. This is a raised strip of rubber between the tread pattern. If the strip is level with the tread pattern, it's time to change the tyre. To check tread using a gauge, test in different places across the width of the tyre.

Even if the pressure and tread are ok, check the tyres for any damage such as cuts or lumps. Occasionally a nail, glass and other sharp object can become embedded in a tyre without causing an immediate puncture. Always remember to check the spare tyre at the same time in case you need to use it.

I FOUND OUT THE way to check and get the correct pressure, what rohoni mention is correct, the correct tyre pressure should be check on cold tyre (i prefer to check in the morning before using the car). hot tyre will give u extra 10-20kpa of reading. BUY a china foot pump that cost only RM 8.90 and it works fine, muhahahahaha, if the pressure not enough during the morning when u check, pump it with the china foot pump till u get the correct pressure. get PCL pressure gauge that cost only RM 13.90 at ACE (its accurate, no worry). so guys go buy your china foot pump and PCL today.........

wahh..
brader Mouse..
now you racun us to buy china foot pump and PCL yek..? :p

I've tried this before.

Pump, pump, pump, pump, pump, pump, pump, pump, pump, and all I got was 1psi more.

Sheesh. I drenched my T in sweat and i needed a shower after adding 2psi all around (4 tyres)... Good thing it was a weekend and i had no where to go in a hurry...
