Just got a 89' E34 525i thanks to a good buddy of mine. Been doing some reading online about best suited Motor Oils for our E34's. There are a lot of people stating that we should avoid using Synthetic Oils as it will lead to leaky seals.

The previous owner of my car never used synthetic oil before so i guess its ok till now. Can anybody verify the truth about using Synthetic oils in our e34? If really Synthetic Oil isnt a issue, would like to switch to Synthetic oils.

Plus can everybody also share what type of Oils that you use? Thanks Heaps!

It's an argumentative subject. But normally rule of thumb for old engines if haven't been overhauled before better to use semi. As fully might be too thin. Due to age

If you drive normally, and religiously change oil every 5000km, any mineral oil will do..doesn't have to be fully syn/ syn..

agree....

alternatively use castrol magnatec 10w40...semi syn and you can extend the change schedule to every 7000kms

What if I dont really drive the car that much since I only visit semenanjung once a month and do not reach 5000kms in 3 mths. Do I also still have to service it every 3 mths?
Since there is always rule of thumb either milleage or 3 mths?

6 months is fine though your mech would be happier with every 3 months ... ;-)
