Just filled up my E34 M50 520i witn Petronas RON95. Will try it out for one month and report my findings.Spec of my car:1990 BMW E34 520i engine swapped to M50B20 and stroke to 2.5LTransmission: 5 speed manualM50 engine mileage: 135461kmEngine Oil: Caltex Magnatech 10w40Wheels: 15inTires: Michelin XM1 195/65/15Tire pressures(Front/Rear): 2.2/2.5MPaOther mods: None. Stock except engine swap.Just for reference, fuel consumption on Petronas RON97:Urban: 12L/100kmHighway: 10L/100km(~140kmh)Will try to report overall fuel consumption on town and highway driving.Do stay posted...:)

Bro, I tested lio. And the first thing u notice is you leg need to stay on the gas pedal longer to get up to speed and kickdown boh rasa wan. If u keep kicking, you will kill your FC. I decided to take it easy because keep kicking also car won't move much and driving has since 1/9/09, became bored. The next thing I notice, FC improve.. of course ma! Aggressive driving style become frustrating, so take it easy the Old Town style..

Thanks. I will try it out for one month and see what's the overall fuel consumption compares to RON97.

The engine does run quieter. This is evident when my radio sounds louder at the same sound level at the same speed. A slight lethargic at stop and go, or is it a psychological? Can't compare with RON97 since I don't have data to compare to.

But when it comes to cruising speed, I did not feel the different. There was still 10% RON97 left in my car fuel tank when filled her up with RON95. Tried it out on Pg Bridge with heavy right foot. Car still responsive. One Merz C class thought I was in the mood so he chased from behind. Naah, not a chance to catch my stroked E34. 5th to 4th and he was eating dust...;)

Will get myself used to RON95 and then change to RON97 to gauge the difference.

tested on my wife's kia rio.. 1 tank on RON97 = 470-480km.. on moRON95 is 400km

Ask her to take it easy on the pedal.. :p :D

Yes, cruising speed of course no difference la. But I suspect torque reduce. Meaning if climbing, speedo will drop swifter.

The quieter engine is already a bad news. Vanos kick in also I think boh rasa lio.. :(

astroboy...try driving with the 95 when the ambient temperature is high...especially at high noon...

my previous e60 feels like i left most of my horses at home...hehe

wow! that's almost 20% increase in consumption. you're financially better off with the 97 then.

Yup, i can feel it also, used to get 525km to full tank, 70L, now only 408km on shell..:(

Filed the full tank of Ron 95. When you floor it, the reaction is slower now for the car to pick up. I agree with you.

Third day on Petronas RON95. Mileage so far: 160km. Yup, the car does feel sluggish in hot day. When tried it on Jelutong highway, can feel it accelerates slower than before. The car acts more "civilized" now...:(

No issues to start the car these few days. The engine start immediately I cranked it. Yes, the engine still run quieter.

Town driving no difference.

To Be Continued....

We both have equally sensitive butts..

Folks... lower efficiency on E36 & E46 detected while using RON95...

BMW engines are equipped with knock sensors and automatically adapt to operate
with fuels of different octane ratings, as long as the minimum octane
requirement is met. Higher octane fuels will provide increased
performance and fuel economy, while the use of gasoline with a
lower octane rating will have an adverse effect.

Update on my E34 M50 RON95 test:

Filled her up at the same pump at the same Petronas station:

Amount of RON95: 49.433L
Mileage traveled: 439.1km
Driving condition: Urban
Fuel consumption: 11.26L/100km

Notes:
1. No change in driving habit. Drove as per normal.
2. During the first fill up last week, there was about 10% RON97 left in the fuel tank(as per indicated in fuel indicator).

Hmm...:hmmmm:

Would be interesting to see what's the fuel consumption like after the next fill up since it would be getting purer RON95 in tank(no mix with RON97).

To be continued....

Very contrary.
ALWAYS : HP = TORQUE x RPM / 5252
At partial throttle(which usually when you are crusing), cylinder pressure is not at maximum thus higher RON fuel does not affect or help with effiency ( or combustion process, since no timing adjustment). Driving an automatic would have shift you to next gear before you feel the VANOS.
What you experience is purely emotional and phycological :D

Yes agree my e36 feel heavier and sluggish too, however my camry no visible difference when filled with RON 95 (Shell), I heard the BHP is good gets more mileage, anybody can vouch this?

i been trying shell ron95... as what most of forumer say, FC is high, skyhigh.. RM40/100-120km

so i decide check out petronas ron95, same driving style it runs me RM40/120-170km

Petronas ron95 seems ok for me consumption OK, with not losing too much power. Shell ron95 is total out!! consumption wow become scarey, car is so much heavier(even my gf who only know to start, drive and parking can feel the difference)

i dont agree this is emotional and phycological or even financial issue(as many of forumer here is feeding their ride with V power beforre)

i think that is many reason will cause consumption high....

1.The petro itself is lack of burning ability means tat need to pedal more to feed into engine for burning more power. which mean if we usually pedal 25% for crusing, and it got to increase to 30% to get the same power output... so this 10% different.....

OR

2.the burning for the petro is slower compare with others brand. which mean even we pedal like hell, but the petro's best working period is start from 3500rpm, mean that for those normal driving ppl which seldom pedal rev to 3500rpm, is wasted and thurs consumption also increase....
