I went to Sapura last Thursday and enquired about the cost to retrofit ipod to my E46.They quoted me only RM 1,288 contrary to the RM 1,700 or so quoted by Auto Bavaria.I have made an appointment to install tomorrow. Will let everyone know if it is too good to be true.

Ok, got it done.
The part number is 65 41 0 409 608 and the cost is RM 1,081.13.
Labour charge is RM 195 plus 5% service tax.
All in is RM1,285.88.
Set back as follows :
1. Does not charge the latest ipod nano. But older nano is OK.
2. Once plugged in, control on ipod is totally disabled and you have to control via the radio or steering wheel.
3. No information on song or singer on the business radio. But it is shown on the ipod
4. The song number shown in the business radio starts from Track 1 and ends at Track 99. Thereafter, it goes to Track 1 ( not the first song but the 100th song and this sequence is repeated.
5. The CD changer is disabled
6. Your "on the go" songlist etc does not work. However, they allow you to programme 5 playlist. The playlist title must start with "BMW1", "BMW2"
until BMW5 (must be capital letters and no space in between otherwise it does not work) However, you can do this "BMW1 - Love Songs" etc. You can put in as many songs as you want in each BMW playlist.
7. You cannot search by singer, song or album. Very troublesome as you have to depend on the playlist you create if you want to hear certain songs or albums.
8. Your movies will not work at all
The good part :
1. Great sound quality ( compared to the frequency device )
Is it worth it - I guess so ...

Ozone.. did you take any picture of the retrofitting.. Appreciate some info on the setup.

Ozone, u could buy Scosche Passport for newer IPODS.

My E39 has Business Radio Cassette Tape. Instead of retrofitting an IPOD kit, i used belkin autokit & cassette tape adaptor.

Afraid not. I left the car there at 9 am and it was only ready at 6 pm.
But I suspect it is just an hour job.
The box stated clearly that that fitting instructions is not included and customer can get a printed copy from Aftersales Assistance Portal which I guess is only accessible by their staff.

I heard about the cassette adaptor but I read somewhere that the sound quality is not very good.
I did buy the Belkin frequency device as well but gave up due to poor sound quality and changing frequency when I travel outstation.

i did this few years ago and the best deals were from the internet. i got the same interface too. rm780 total(now it's even less)

i just got another for a 7 series rm475 + rm80 to install.

rm1200 is ok iguess but at that time they wanted rm1600 plus another couple hundred to install at glenmarie.

oh, you can skip tracks(10 jumps) if you hold down the fwd button

you can also ff the song you're listening to.

go look at the manual that comes together with the kit or download one from ipodmybmw.com

it's actually very simple(altho i didn't take pics). there's a kotak with wires at both ends. one goes into your cd(you have to give up your cd player) and the other end sambung to your ipod(the wayar got like extension so can make it to your glove compartment).

so it's actually very low tec device that converts your mp3's from ipod.

go do a search..got pictures everywhere on the net

Sound quality of cassette adaptor is dependant on which output.

If earphone output, 100% cannot make it.

My setup is ipod output via dock connector to Belkin autokit. From Belkin autokit output to Cassette adaptor via 3 1/2" jack. In addition, Belkin autokit has volume control. D sound quality is almost on par wif CD player.

Does anyone now whether I have to switch off the ipod or disconnect it every time I stop the car ? Will this drain the batteries ?
Is it OK to leave the ipod in my car all the time by just switching off the radio ( I don't park under the sun at all so heat draining the battery not a problem )

For those who has older equipment eg bmw ipod interface, harman kardon ipod player etc etc, you will find that you can play but cannot charge your newer ipods.
Just visited ipod shop today and found that belkin has come up with an adaptor which allows your ipod to be charge using older equipment.
Cost is RM 145.
