"A" with an outer circle is the AUTO mode:
Description in the manual: Left-hand LED on, AUC mode: a sensor detects pollutants in the outside air. If necessary, the system blocks the supply of outside air and recirculates the inside air. As soon as the concentration of pollutants in the outside air has decreased sufficiently, the system automatically switches back to outside air supply.

The one next to it is the recirculated-air mode
Description in the manual: Right-hand LED on, recirculated-air mode: the supply of outside air is permanently shut off. The system then recirculates the air currently within the vehicle.

I don't think the outsie air is permanently shut off in the recirculated mode. Try follow behind a bus or lorry with black smoke and for sure you will smell it, but the smell is much more in non-recirculation mode. You will still get the smell even in Auto mode, despite of the air filter containing activated carbon.:106:

We will also get the burning smell when pass by area with open burning even in recirculated mode.

yesterday was using in auto mode
can smell fart and bus humes.....
yuckss...

Not true for my 2007 E90. When I hit the recirculate mode on the multifunction steering, no more odor.. :top:

Sorry to dig up old tread but i read b4 somewhere that a chap in Subang is able to program it that if we choose internal recirculation, it'll stay there even after the car has stopped over a long period of time. I'd like to have it program, but where can i find the contact of this chap?

Thanks guys

Correct me if I‘m wrong. E90 has no cabin filter to protect the internal cooling coil. The pollen or microfilter located under the hood, is to filter external odor and dust from getting into the car, before feeding the cooling coil. if we are permanently on internal mode, air passing the cooling coil will bypass the microfilter. Internal air is full of dust and fibre from our clothing and carpet. Your cooling coil will clog and punctured very fast.

Hi Astroboy,

Am not too sure abt Beemer aircond design, but i know my current and previous Jap cars was on this setting since day ONE ownership and i have NEVER encountered coil getting clogged but i do clean and change the cabin filter regularly AND most importantly was that to keep the carpet on the passenger side clean as much as possible. These car were driven over 5-8 years at least.

Still hoping to get the chap's no whom is located in Subang if i remembered correct somewhere here.....

It was done on my E39 using GT1 but I was told that it is not possible on E87. Never had a chance to try it out.

Jap cars if come with cabin filter, it will be located in front of the cooling coil under the dash. On the contrary, BMW microfilter is located in the engine compartment under the wiper to clean in coming external air and will not help if on internal circulation mode. And of course, the door seals in BMW is much secured than Japs cars so allowing external air in to freshen up the cabin air is important to reduce the CO2 level in the cabin. Too much CO2, driver will feel tired and doze off.. very dangerous.

It's just different design philosophy.

e92/e93 is simple 5min job to recode it for auto recirc on as default, just find someone with the OBD coder.

Yup, need to recode but who has the contact of the person whom has this tool, knowledge and whats the charge?

Thanks and Happy New Year everyone!!!!

I have INPA NCS expert. Can code it for you bro. No fee required just need you to come to my place.
