Most club adopt this mechanism...
Try getting a AAM racing license, u'll need to pay full fees even if you apply it in Dec. And the license is only valid until 31 Dec... At least we have pro rata annual fees... ;)

Last time we did have half year fees, now not sure, cos not etched in stone... Hmmm.. So it's not exactly pro-rata...

Nope... still same fee but those who join in 2nd half, we will offer additional goodies for their starter pack worth RM75 in value when the year ends, rather than give monetary pro rated rebates. The goodies will be determine once the year ended because we need the quantity to collectively order goodies with better pricing.

Here are some of my feedback from the Raub drive:

1) Lead car should be ZERO car not Car #1. And sweeper car should be either '00' or 'XX' to differentiate it from other car numbers.
2) there is no designated marshall cars. Marshall cars should be marked with 'MARSHALL' stickers or 'M1', 'M2', 'M3' etc... So that the group knows who are the designated marshall cars. One of marshall's function is stop traffic, if applicable, to allow the whole convoy to pass thru safely. And also to wait up at junctions to let the cars at the back knows where to turn so that they don't missed the junction...

I have been on a long drive with the Audi boys and their marshalling is very good. They rempit more crazy than we do, 300+hp A4 quattro and 400hp S3, and an ex audi owner with a 400hp Scooby... distance between 1st car and last car can be a full 2km apart. But they have a good system to ensure no one gets lost.. Powerful Stickered Marshall cars will take turn to station at junctions where the convoy needs to turn off.

Here's a very comprehensive convoy guide from kiaforte forum, dun play play. A bit overkill with so many designations but there's definitely something we can learn from.

Let's recap. The 518 was actually the designated as Marshall car for that day. Fabian was the Lead car and QD was the Sweeper.

In a convoy, actually all cars play a role in ensuring the success of the drive. A lot of common sense involved. Every car must stay in sight of the car before him/her and the car behind him/her. When suddenly you don't see the car behind u, must slow down and by doing so, the car before u will do the same and that will slow down the lead car.

I still think overtaking is allowed but until as far as the lead car. Over taking lead car is definitely wrong la. Cucuk the lead car also is wrong.

2km is not long. Imaging 100m apart, 10 cars is already 1km. Therefore, space between cars are very important. 30~50m is ideal. Anything more, it will slow down the convoy as lead car will slow down to pick u up. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Agree with Astroboy, If no overtake then might as well stay home watch TV. why convoy?! What works with in Audi rules may not work in BMW Club. After all the car is different anyway.

I think I didn't make it clear enuf, the no overtaking was from kia forte club...
As for the Audi,VW group convoy I went to in my E30, it was open to all... drive it like u stole it... I misquoted by saying the convoy spread over 1-2km, i think it was more like 10km on the trunk road between the 1st car and last car. That trip had about 30 cars including those from S'pore..

On another East Coast trip organised by Club Audi (or rather VAG) which I didn't go, the lead car was a Nissan R34 skyline with a add-on speedo which was giving the wrong speed at above 180kph (stock meter tops up at 180kph). He thot he was going at 210 but in actually fact it was more like 260kph...
On the way, there was a big operasi on the other side of the East Coast Highway, and all these Audis, VW and a few Porsches were gunning it at top speed. No one got stopped on that day..
However, on the next day(Sunday), the big operasi was waiting for them to head back town.... Some of them took the trunk road back and escaped the ops.

Like I said, the kiaForte's rules are a bit overkill but it's always good to have a comprehensive structure to refer to, and then trim it down to what suits us...

Let's recap. The 518 was actually the designated as Marshall car for that day. Fabian was the Lead car and QD was the Sweeper.

1 marshall car for 27 cars is so 'understaffed'.. 1 good ratio should be about 1 marshall car to every 5-8 cars. And marshall cars are also sub-group leaders should the convoy breaks up as they should have walkies to communicate to other marshall cars and lead and sweeper.

And speaking of walkies, we should have a group buy for walkies for those who are more active in drives... The Motorola Talkabout was the defacto walkies for a lot of car clubs. But now a lot have switched to the China mali Puxing walkies with much better coverage and not that much more expensive compared to the Motos.

It did crossed our mind.. the walkie is not cheap.. about half a thousand Ringgit each, we need more than 1 and we tried not to use the club fund. It was mostly handphone communication in the Raub trip, phone line coverage was out at certain stretch and was glad none got lost. Quite an achievement if u ask me.

We all know who were the regular convoy kakis and they all have personal walkie and is constantly in touch with each other that day

"Under-equipped" is a better word to use than under-staffed. Zero car was you fabian because we know you know what to do while the 518 is more suitable as marshall for obvious horse power reason.

QD is a very trusty Sweeper as he never leave anyone behind while in between, we have some regular experience convoy kaki like XXX, Don Franco, mizhan and an half bake yours truly.

20+ cars were broke in to 3 groups of less than 10 cars, with the above name fellas as first car and last car, newbie in the last group. I say its pretty well planned, minus the under equipped part.

Meanwhile, most of the committee member were busy individuals and not regular convoy kaki. So volunteer like yourself to help out in drives is a definite contribution to the club and we need more people like u. :top:

And group buy for walkie is a definite yes, for those regular drive participants. Any volunteer to head the group buy?
