Let's pull out a list.An indication of the problems that our cars have experienced & see if the problems arisen will still be consideration for another BMW purchase.Reason why i have started this is due to my latest incident on OEM BMW equipment. Due to that, I am really convinced that I will NEVER EVER purchase another BMW again.

Aiseyman bro,

Don't la like that..what happened? Would you like to share your experience? I just purchased my first beemer a few months ago and you really make me feel scared. :(

Daniel...aiyooo where got car got no problem one...sure have..no need to tell scare people like dat lorrr...if it is as bad as u say it is...takkan BMW's selling well WORLDWIDE...u talking bout a specific model or BMW in general?
...i dont think its fair to generalise BMW cars are not good cars...i wont deny that sometimes they will be problems...mercedes does recalls...porcshe does recalls...volvo does recalls..honda does recalls...proton..dont bother..wont even acknowledge there's a problem eventho there is one...

i dont know what happened to ur car...but Im still gonna be buying BMW's...heck if i can afford it....I'll buy the M3,M5,760iL,X5 4.4 minimum today...here's another thing...sometimes problems arise coz people dont know how to take care of their vehicles...it happens and thats a fact of life

:yahoo: chubby

i think we are all curious to listen, what daniel's problem is....

Can can, of course i will explain.

What i have posted are my personal experiences combined with my expectations of how a german based car should preform as it was supposed to.

From Wikipedia.
In general, reliability (systemic def.) is an ability of a system to perform/maintain its functions in routine and also in different hostile or/and unexpected circumstances.

In natural language it may also denotes persons which acts efficiently in proper moments/circumstances (infallibile).

Here is the list of the problems of my CKD E46 since day 1.

1) Failour of control arm bushings

2) Failiour of front control arms. Took AB months and months to refund my payment after work was done.

3) Failour of some engine sensor leading to a breakdown on the public roads.

4) God knows how many power window lifters i have replaced. Once leading to the scratching of my window tinting.

5) Head gasket leak

6) Oil filter gasket leak

7) Water pump failour. Another road side breakdown

8) Fuel level failour. Ran out of petrol, again stuck on the main road.

9) Expansion Tank explosion. Roadside breakdown AGAIN.

10) Failour of window washer fluid pump

11) The constant bulb replacement of the rear brake lights

12) Failiour of the handbrake brakeshoe, causing the rear brake to rattle and ding and dong . So, instead of another roadside assistance at 8pm on the N-S highway, drove the bloody thing all the way back to Penang.

13) Gearbox jammed in 4th gear while outstation going up Cameron Highlands, and guess what! AB roadside assistance does not cover Cameron Highlands!

14) Steering column rattle. to replace will be a cost of 3k. Screw that!

15) Failiour of the mounting clips of the kidney grilles. Due to the heat from the engine, they become brittle and snap off.

16) Deflection of exhaust heat shield, causing rattling.

17) The centre console rubberized finish, what was BMW thinking!!!???

18) Leaking boot, somehow water can find its way into the left side of my boot.

may have left out a few other things.

All this has occured over the 2.5yrs of my ownership.

Chubby, my car is extremely well maintained. You will never find any taiwan or reconditioned parts on my car. Oil change at every 5000-6000km. Fully synthetic oil. If anything goes kaput, its replaced by an BMW specialist with original parts.

Yes i drive it hard too, but the failiours listed above should not even exist, no matter how i drive it.

I have had a Volkswagen & Porsche, even a Ford, and they never gave me such grief. Then again, it may just be my car. That's why i wanted to ask if you guys out there have similar problems.

I have been accepting all these items with a pinch of salt, or maybe i had a bad day yesterday, but looking back....... I really did expect a better quality product from BMW, hell! my Perdana V6 gave me even less problems!

daniel bro.... sumtimes buyin car is also bout luck... guess all cars do hv its sets of problems... dont give up... i had my share of probs with my previous car... if not for the resale value i would hv gotten the newer model but alas....

hmmm wonderin if how cbu compares to ckd in terms of built quality?

?
keep me wonders, u be the very few in penang does that. I freetime lepak lepak so far not yet seen. :)

Daniel, i pity you.. in other words, sell that model of yours and buy another model..

sometimes the car we buy might not suite us or not 'ngam' or 'click' with us..

take for instance, my 95' citroen volcane.. endless problems till i sold the car within 1 year, driving pleasure was good, car handled well.. sad to let go..

regards.

considered that, but too much money already stuck into my POS.

if something comes my way, then i guess that will tip the scales.

Also at the same time waiting for my bro to sell his EVO8 to me.

Agree with you luck also counts on cars we own sell or trade in and get another model. Its up to you cars are man made sure have slack on some, just your luck Daniel.

Daniel,

I can see some similarities when it comes to 'BMW disease'.

I bought my car in April and these are the the things that I had changed/experienced:

1) Faulty LED rear lights (both). Costs me RM1160. This one you cannot change the bulb. Must change the whole assembly.

2) Driver's window power window cable snapped. Costs me RM680. Again, must change the whole unit including the supporting frame. There's no such thing as replacing the cable only. **

3) Camshaft sensor. RM390. I changed this after my engine stalled.

4) Pulse generator. RM401. I just changed this sensor at AB this afternoon. But, this time I was being proactive. I changed the part before it can think of giving additional headache to me.

** This is typical BMW problem. Could be a design fault.

I spent RM2631 in two months. Since my car is a recond car, these are the risk that I have to take/already taken. I call it 'The BMW Experience'. So far, I am still in 'passion mode', not yet the 'headache mode'. You know, the kind of feeling when you first got married. :D

i agreed with daniel a german made with such a quality will a shame and be mad on what happen, but sometimes many thing are coz also by man themselves not the driver but the workshop or mech that is doing the job, in this case in mal the fu*rk up assembly line and QC.
eg
Say the arm bush if not done proper it will fail in 6 months, else will last for 2 years.
Sensor if not done proper it also will fail again.
One lead to second problem sometimes the thing that u change might not be the correct one but one u change it the other part start to fail... so the problem never stop

that is why we need a good doc or mech to do the job always chk with another mech b4 doing the big budget repair,

AB is good #$$%^& shit job they do.... 400 job say need to chnage the gearbox XXX.

My lesson id never leave your car with the mech without seeing what they do or take out from your car.... trust your own eyes if not you will be the losing end....my 2 kupang only....

Sharing problem in forum is good to improve our knowledge on our car..and things that we should or shouldnt do and who the good mech/workshop.. :D
