Hi All,I'm toying with the idea of buying this DVD/Navigation unit for E46, but they also have for E39 and few more model. It sort of plug and play, no need to do wiring etc (from the write-up) and also you won't lose the steering control function. It has an OEM look to it as compared to all the DVD available in the market (but you will lose the steering control function). To do a full OEM DVD Navigation MKiV will cost up to RM7 or RM10 depending on your luck in ebay and item available. So if this is ok I might also do it for my E39 as the price is acceptable. http://www.dvdgpsnavigation.com/bmw-3-e46-dvd-navigation-radio-7-hd-touch-screen-bluetooth-ipod-rds-phonebook_p733.html I've been quoted the following price from the website USD585.2 plus shipping. USD550 plus shipping if bought 10 unit. USD545 @ 15 unit and USD540 @ 20. another site below offer USD469.98 but not sure on quantity and shipping as I can't register inside (or I dont know how as keep asking for MSN which I'm not sure what) http://www.eegochina.com/productinfo.asp?id=1237 Can someone who is IT savy explain how to register on the 2nd site as if the cost quoted is plus shipping that will only be around RM1.6k. Any interested party who want to champion this. Thanks

Sounds interesting...But My E39 single Din ...do they sell the faceplate as well? What type of maps can be used?

I'm not sure about the faceplate, but I think we don't need the faceplate. We can ask them on this. For E39 you'll need to take out the cassete deck and the radio, the unit looks like the attach site

Personally I'll want to go the E46 route first as E39 has OBC function read out on your radio display (time to arrival/fuel left etc although you can switch to your meter read out, I just prefer it on the radio read out) and unsure whether this DVD will be able to have the OBC function in the LCD display. E46 dont have this... so if it turn out alrite I might go the same route later. But we can always ask them

Yoke...yes please do ask if it could retain the E39 OBC functions and readout in this new display unit. If it's possible i'm on it!

Mine's a MID (high OBC) so me don't want to loose out on this OBC data.

i think someone able to answer u all..

Paging 525i..

Haha. Actually I have no idea about this unit except from what I read. I went for the original BMW one bought from ebay a year ago. If I had known about this then, I would definitely go for this. So much easier and cheaper. Bigger screen too.

Regarding the OBC display, mine still has it but it's never used. All the time in the GPS or audio display. So not really something to miss.

The new unit has has a modern touch screen with a modern GPS and plays all form of audio and video formats. The original one has a crappy GPS which is almost impossible to use. Can't play mp3 or movies as well without 3rd party equipment. All these 3rd party equipment fills up the space reserved for the CD player in the boot.

One concern about this new unit though. The colour seems black while our E39 is actually greyish black. So it may look out of place. And that would spoil the looks of the console. Would be good to confirm the colour. Other than that, this unit is godsend. Wish I knew about this 1 year ago.

Hi 525i,

Are you driving an E39 and had replaced your NAV system? Mind showing us photo of your system for reference?

Thanks,

cheers,
Neoh

I replaced the MID system with a NAV system. I understand some Jap models of the E39 came with the NAV system but they don't work here. I went for a UK system and here are the results.

Sorry Yoke for hogging your thread with this.

Yeap, posted a similiar quetion there and get few feedback of which I've pass it to the unit seller. Below are excerpt:

Hi There,

Yes,this product is not ready .Because there are some problem with the BMW item you mentioned of another producer ,so our producer spend a little long time to test this product to ensure each function can run on normally . This new product will be complete around April 15th .

About the steering control function ,all of our car dvd player support steering control function, please don't worry about this .

About the map edition , our car dvd player operating system is window CE5.0 ,you can buy the map with SD card which can run on window CE5.0 and should be PNA edition . Such as Garmin, Tomtom, Igo, Route66 and so on

Regards,
May

Hi May Wei,
What do you mean when you say it's still on testing? Does it mean that the unit is still not ready and there's still gremlins that need to be sorted out? Can you elaborate more on the stage of the unit readiness.
In that case does it mean that only next month will I be able to purchase that unit.
You still didn't reply to my earlier question on whether I can still use the car steering control function (to change track, increase/decrease volume) when using this unit. About the map. What compatibility platform that I can load into the unit (using either the DVD/SD card) for example like Papago, Mapking, Garmin, Tomtom, Igo, Route66 etc (mention in your website it is able to do so) can you elaborate on this .

Thanks

No wonder the colour looked off. It's photoshopped!

Too good to be true. For now at least.

Hi 525i,

You have a nice original system there to drool for! Thanks for the photos. Really appreciate it!

Cheers,
Neoh

525,
What you have in the car is precisely what I'm thinking earlier on, but the cost and time finding the things in ebay and putting everything together wears me down. That's why I'm looking at this option but seems still a lot gremlins. Will see how this turn out and will inform u guys

True. If there is indeed such an alternative, go for it. Much easier.

Hi,

keep us informed for the latest informations. I'm interested it too.

Once we change to this player, i think we might not be able to check our BC reader anymore such as the fuel consumption, range and etc....... is it true?
