hello all im currently using an e46 318ci valvetronic 2.0 ; need help since i don't have manuals so please help me..:( ..just went to check wether my engine coil + engine oil running ok since my idling a bit shaking so i just opened up my engine oil cover ( the one on the left cover on top of the engine oil with NO skru's + BMW signature on the cover :top:)..but guess what? after i open this cover i couldn't tighten it back to its base position ( loose somewhere ) so when idling the cover also shaking...shame for me :( no idea what to do...try to press as hard as i can but still couldn't tight..is there any clip for this cover? i couldn't find the clip...really appreciate any help :)

where u did ur regular service?how did u take the oil cover out?by pulling or turning it anticlockwise?

not the oil cover cap...i mean that square big cover..first i took out the oil cap...then i tried to open the engine cover to check either my engine leaking or not...now i can't close back the engine cover properly...it loose somewhere...

HI Laneza,

I'm no BMW engine expert, but some pics of your engine bay would definitely help. The more experienced forummers here will understand your problem better and point you in the right direction.

Hope you get this niggle sorted soon.

Cheers

owh ya thanks for that info..i will post a pic soon..( my camera broken at the moment ) will post the pics..thanks..:D

I experience it b4 and managed to close up the engine cover, but I can't tell you how the step to close it up. My method is to place properly first with the engine cover and try error method until I managed to close it up, then I scared to try it up again and close my oil cap immediately. This is what my experience.

I think it's the valve head cover. If leak maybe the Valve gasket cover.

thanks

hiya after opened back my engine cover i found there is a oil in there but im not sure sure either this is called "leaking" or it's only from oil splitted/squirt ( might be coz i didn't close the oil cap properly before ) .. this picture might help...

about the engine cover, finally i already found the solution..in the middle of the cover (under) there is a rubber coupling to tighten the plastic engine cover..what i need to do just put the cover back to its position and give a good push on top middle of the cover..will hear sounds like "tup" -> rubber already connected each other..problem solved :D..the only problem is there is an oil ( as seen in the picture above ) im afraid if there is any leakage over there..hopefully not..i already wiped it and would like to give my car a good run 2morrow and check back the oil..i believe the oil came from the oil cap cover ( either didnt shut properly or there is a gap when i shut the oil cap..) how bout ur engine? is there any oil when u open ur engine cover? i think it supposed should be clean in there...thanks

Wah! you 46 engine very clean internally le! I am pretty sure you replace your oil sooner than the recommended 25k km interval. What oil u use? I want to use the same oil!

This cover izzit? (Pinjam from pussy)

This is valve head....sometime it is not leaking...it because you close the cap wrongly....

..thanks bro..im thinking the same as well...but my underneath cover ( bottom cover ) there is a oil patch there..that's why im so worried if there is any leaking...

That one called Valve Head Gasket. This will cost you RM250. Be careful when taking this out. They got some resin that seal the gasket with the cover and the engine. If you take it out afraid it will peel off the gasket and will caused leaking...there's no workaround but to replace it with new Valve head gasket.

so this need to find professional mechanic to repair? but the leaking i found is under the car not the top..top is fine very2 clean no oil suspect leaking ( only the one in the picture but i think that coz didnt shup the oil cap properly )..the leaking is right the middle bottom...i thought it something to do with oil sum tank or etc..will check it soon...

Middle bottom is the Oil Sump Gasket. That will cost you RM 280. Give MSpeed a call. I just changed mine last 2 weeks. Now ok already.
