hi dudes...am having couple of problems... thought if i get some input from the old (not by age and not offending... hahaha) timers will be helpful for me... 1. O2 sensor kaputed successfully last month... its for the 4th and 6th cylinder. checked around prices range between MYR 450 - MYR 1,500. Confused as some guys telling me that there are ori and non-ori. Sensor from chop-shop is around MYR 150. 2. Gear box had problem 2 days ago. Suddenly stuck in 2nd gear and did not shift higher. Stopped and offed and started back the engine still same. Consulted siffus and they ask me to do a hard reboot (not ctrl+alt+del) but through the battery. after that gear shifting ok but then after driving some time, stop and then when i take off, gear slips and car vibrates. However ever since bought, there will be slight knocking when shifting N - D - P - R. Not sure if the torque convertor problem or silinoid problem... I just hope it is not the whole gear box... (zoggie, i know you told me but what to do mar... thanks for the advice three28)advice pls

For the e36 328, your engine management system is by Siemens. As such, you can only use siemens O2 sensor which supplies to BMW. E36 325 and 318 uses Bosch Engine Management system and there are more options since you could also use Beru sensors.

As for your tranny, send it to a proper mechanic with a modic to check on it. If the solenoids are faulty it will show. When the "trans program" message is out, chances are something is faulty, rebooting the whole system is just a temporary solution.

All the best.

Dude, how'd you confirm that the O2 sensor kaput? Its a pricy thing to change and its performance is related to car mileage and emmisions. As such, a 2nd hand part is not a good idea. A new one ( Bosch ) cost me Spore $190.00. But make sure its indeed a faulty O2 sensor and not something else that needs changing.
Cheers.

thanks for the updates guys...

finally right before leaving for Qatar my car kaput in the middle of the road when i stopped on a traffic light. can start but engage gear, engine dies. what some more, can ah chong lah... towed the car middle of the night to my apartment... next day asked my mechanic friend to come in and confirmed gear box kaput...then towed all the way to senawang...

most of the major part were broken and cannot be used... mmm wonder why... need to control my feet now... also changed the O2 sensor... rebuild the gearbox... ding dong ding dong total bill kena MYR 5,600. ouch...

So that was your car at hitech ;)
yup bro... were you the one that was tryin to get the player working as it needed a password thingy?

i suggest you use original Oxygen sensor.

don't buy second hand one. this type of component very sensitive. second hand one the might just throw it here and there cause the oxygen sensor elemnt cracked inside which canot be seen.

about your gearbox. canot tell better go do and short test and see the result.

is the atf enough ??
yup the solenoid could be malfunction.

Hmm...I guess my o2 sensor probably kaput already. The symptom (from what I read here) smell of petrol in my car and vibration when I start move my car  Mine 325i e36 '94. Probably how much it will cost me for o2 sensor... :dunno:
