I am also having problem, gear slipped and "prog fail safe" was displayed in Oct last year. Went to my mech and was advise to flush and change gb oil. Did it and the car was " fine" till now, "fine" as no more such code display in my OBC. But everytime I go for GT1, it will show tranmission error, further analysis will show excessive gear slipping, conver and 1 more that I can recalled. If you guys are going for M-scope with the intention of opening up the box and upgrade for better power, I am definately interested. PM me if it is on.
By the way, mine is a E39 530i. Thanks.

All I can say here is MScope does it's job very well. There is no guess work in the way things are done.

But Yazid's pointer is true, wack until koyak then only proceed to see him is the best option. My only hope is the boss has not yet decided to pack it in KL and head home to Australia to be with his family.

if he goes back to Australia, what happens to the 2-year warranty?

Waa 1st time I hear that second hand/recond GB comes with warranty. The shop must be good man.

BTW is it true that upgrading GB can improve performance? Have anyone tried?

Go and talk to the M Scope boss. He will explain everything to you about your gearbox, what is wrong and ok and see where u go from there. Every case may be different.

So far my gearbox is OK. Its just that I'm curious about upgrading it.

BTW, what is the early sign that the gearbox is giving up? My shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear and 3rd to 4th gear is not as smooth and getting harder. Can this be the symptom?

If you curious about gearboxes, please go and see Mr. MScope. He'll tell u a lot of gearbox stories if you have the time.

Thanks 9922,

How can I get more info about M-Scope? Location, contact no, name of the boss, etc ...

Any info on the contacts and location of M-Scope, guys? It would be of great help....thanks.

If you come from Ampang/Ulu Kelang toward Batu Cave on MRR2. you see Giant on your left, after Giant is a Shell, turn left after Shell and and immediately turn right go a bit further, and right again after a few shops, and come to T-Junction, and then turn left keep going you will see his shop on the left, or if You know Batu Cave Welly bike shop, he is at the back of Welly. You can call him direct, but as they are too many phone call, sometime he will not pick up, so best is go to the shop direct. He will not be moving to Australia, and M-Scope has 3 shops there, even his machai is good. You can call him direct zero-1-two two 3 five one 6 six seven. Good Luck!!

Trans Prog Failure happened to my e34. Everytime I tekan and trash this comes on and g/box goes into limp mode. Switch off engine for a few minutes start again and was OK. The g/box is slipping but only in reverse gear, forward gears OK. The problem went away after I changed the battery, apparently the old battery could not hold the charge well, it showed up when it was load tested. I had no problems starting the car either. The other possible fault is also alternator.

You may wanna check this out, it's alot cheaper than a g/box overhaul.

When its cold nothing happens. Then after some running around for about 10km nothing happens. Then when i stop at a red light thats when things go nasty. If i lightly floor the accelerator nothing happens until it changes to 2nd gear where the shifting gets rough. If i pull out of a red light with a bit more acceleration the 1st gear slips sending the car into a violent shudder. Its like trying to drive a manual and releasing the clutch lighning fast many many times without any acceleration pedal. Btw the car is not moving. It doesnt spin the wheel. No dashboard warning light. Just violent jerks but stationary.

Then when i slow down at a red light or junction the downshift can be felt and it can be very annoying. Sometimes to the extent of a loud and violent DONK. Then the cycle repeats itself all over again. And to be honest it feels quite heavy to move the car from a standing start. After 3rd gear its all good. Tried to change ATF fluid before but it didnt help a least bit. The ATF oil was not very stained. Last change was 60k kms. Changed gearbox mounting still no difference. Took a look at the drive shaft coupling but its still fine. No cracks.

So this has to be something internal as my car is already quite ageing. 1996 528i with 190k kms on the clock. So i guessed it was about time too. What do u reckon?

bro, i'm not sure whether i have the same problem as u.(whether can be classify as gear slip?)

my car also feels very heavy to move from stand still. a light step on the pedal will move the car like a tortoise, but when i step a bit more, the car zooms forward lightning fast. when i step lightly, the car will move like 1.5k rpm...then press slightly harder only suddenly surge to 3k rpm..
i don't know how to describe it, but it just doesnt feels the accelerator responded normally to the pressure i put on the pedal.
but my car doesnt jerk when accelerating or braking.

anyway, my e39 clocked 180k km without ATF oil change before..should i take the ATF change jump ?

need it to be at par with engine and to complete the tranplant job done earlier and of course the final drive as well.
