get the 520d.... you wont regret it... 5 years of different technology form BMW is big...

I agree with Pussy. With 5 YEARS in difference of technology in BMW is worlds apart.

If you get the M6, get the dealer to give you a 1 year warranty in writing....test driven both the cars? What does your heart scream at you?

2 different class of car you're asking to compare here, a sport coupe and a daily-drive sedan. If you don't need to make a choice, get the M6 as weekend ride and 520d as daily workhorse. That's what I'd do if my pocket is deep enough.

M6 - 12k road tax is negligible in comparison with her future maintenance.
520d - 5-year BSRI (right?) = peace of mind.

5-years difference is technology? may I know what tech? basis of comparison is 2011 520d F10 vs 2006 M6...

- Newer CIC iDrive? The M6 can be 'retrofitted' with this...
- Suspension? ///M suspension vs series production suspension based on the same system...520d does not have the dynamic chassis control and active integral steering...
- HUD? 520d dun have
- engine? I4 diesel vs V10 petrol??
- differential? non LSD vs variable LSD up to 100% lock-ups...
- Gearbox? 8-Speed Auto vs Automated Manual Box??
- Chassis/Body? Aluminium Front Structure, Bonnet, Doors, Fender vs Aluminium Front Structure, Plastic Fender, Carbon Roof...
- Brakes? i think you know...

so please enlighten us what kind of 5-years advancement of the F10 worth considering here comparing to the ///M6?

its not worth comparing coz its different class of vehicle...only by the price but to what extend?

Test drove the 520d. It's a really good car, but it won't set my heart racing any more than my current ride (Golf GTI MkV), unless I missed something out.

Haven't tried the M6. Not sure if the used car dealer will allow test drive prior to deposit. YouTube videos were good enough to set my heart racing.

Not sure if many Malaysian dealers are willing to give 1 year warranty on old cars!

Haha, exactly my problem. No way I can buy both. If I had RM650k I'd go for a used R8 instead of both an M6 and 520d!

Wow good reply, thanks :) I guess if it was you you'd get the M6?

considering that the road tax is RM11k, 10-litres of engine oil (Castrol TWS) costs RM1000 (retail price), 70 litres of fuel every 350km & ///M specific parts which is normally 2 to 3-times the price of series production parts...the logical choice financially is the 520d...if your priority is to make ur heart racing over your pocket, by all means go for the ///M6...

Different cars altogether, out of curiosity, why m6 and not m5?

Good question. It's because I haven't really found a good M5 for sale at a reasonable price, I guess?

Don't rush; it is almost end of the year and the m6 price will likely come down further in the new year. There are plenty of M5 for sale these days esp 2006-2008 models. happy car hunting.

keep the golf as the daily and get the m6.... and everybody on this forum will be gree with jealousy.

if i were in your shoes and can afford to maintain an m6, i.e. fuel, road tax and repair/whatever else (u never know when something is going to go wrong) i'd get it over the 520d. echo what ribena said about priority; financially logical choice 520d, else m6. i assume you don't have kids yet thus rear seats not important. i think the m6 should be sufficiently comfortable for use as daily drive.
