I already replace my radiator, all 3 hoses and also termostat which about 4 days ago.But i stii facing same problem, which is before replace those parts,my temp gauge showing slightly above half, according to anakin it should be lower than half. After replace the part that i mention early I still facing same problem. Why?Anybody can help me?

So suprise! No body willing to share the experience hw to over the problem!

Hi there,

I don't think it should be lower, it should be exactly in the gauge centre. Your overheating doesn't seem to be a major one, have you checked if your aircond fan and radiator fan are running properly? Which engine are you using, the M20 or the M50?

just a little over half is not overheating.i think your needle is still on the middle mark but just slighty over? this is normal. some thermostats or clutch fans give think. if the needle doesn't leave the half way marker, you're stilll ok. all the air was bled from your system??

jumi, ramsing is right - your temp. is normal. mine also like that. as for clutch fan, there is no point of servicing them, it wont last. you need to change the whole set but the fan blade you can use back. you can do a simple test on your clutch fan : switch on the engine and then switch it off and at the same time look at your clutch fan, it should immediately stop turning the moment you switch off your engine. if it still move then your clutch fan is not performing at optimum efficiency - advisable to change.

Thank for the info bro AAM.Btw where to buy the new set of clutch fan?Still can get new or need to go to chop shop?
Hw much it cost for the new sets?

First Division , Bomin Auto, Munich Auto or Bavarian Auto. Not mistaken about rm 300 for brand new , used one about rm 150. go for Behr brand, i think they are ori brand for BMW.

whether you are buying new or used set, make sure there is no oil leak from the clutch fan. insist on warranty and do the simple test as mentioned earlier.

with new set you might get slightly lower temp. reading ( I do get lower reading with my E30 ) .

Thanks bro I will do the test. And tomorro will cal the supplier to check it out.

to be clear, the fan will stop immediately when the engine is turned off only when the engine is at optimum operating temp (about half). if the engine is cold, the fan clutch will spin when the engine is turned off.

You mentioned quite a bit of parts in your list. Out of curiosity, water pump also changed?

Yup,water pump also change bro.....

My gauge is slightly below half when running and slightly above half when idling i.e. stuck in traffic, etc.

definitely nothing wrong. mine which is a m20b20 is doing the same. running on 82C thermostat (if i remember correctly) and its below half when driving and goes up just pass middle if idle for a long time. engine is old...but it is very fine.

Hi E34 members, My E34 was bought by my dad since 1990 (brand new till now), car hardly use until now mileage only 120000km...Recently I decided not to use my Cefiro A33 but going to do this E34 nicer & perform well....Sent for BMW orig workshop for checking and servicing. My Temp like what you guys mentioned, it was slightly above centre...and sometime during heavy jam, it hit almost the next line of Centre....It's weird and uncomfort..Workshop shop checked and advise to change Fan Clutch...after done up....now resume normal...

I think half gauge is normal when driving and slightly above half is ok whn idling for long like during traffic jam.on one of my previous ride(E30 converted Eta 2.7) the gauge would hit 3/4 whn stuck in traffic for long period even after changing the thermostat but no overheating issues.

A note about clutch fans - I replaced a brand new one (i think behr) and only lasted 1 year. Instead, I'm using a used but ori one from e39 and is still going good after 3 years...go figure...my mech said new clutch fans are a gamble...see yr luck...:hmmmm:
