Hi all,I'm new to this UDM (I've learnt what this means!) and have never owned/driven a BMW before. Thinking of getting one to experience ownership of a BMW.I saw an E34 520i manual for sale, 93/95 model with mileage

please introduce yourself at the Newbie section using template provided. then PM morpheous for the advice sought.

number one thing to make sure is, the cooling system! hope that the car's cylinder head isn't crack.

whattt ..pretty ...nahhhh .....i'm still thinking hard on how to outbeat an e34 on a straight line .....especially on a rolling run .:)

oppsss sorry for the hijack ...

don't get an 520 ,,it's gonna be a waste when comes time for mod, or maybe after a few weeks driving it , you may want to overtake a kancil that outbeat you and yet you're still far far away ....... get a V8 instead ..or an m50 ..or an m30 ....or an M5 the real deal ... :)

stop wasting time with those 520 ...

i completely agree :D

no problems with the hijack... i'm learning more about all those abbreviations that you guys use :) thanks for all the info/advice!

Well...if you want to tag team or race on the roads, 520 isn't the way to go. On the other hand, as a solid 2nd hand car and paying minimum money to the JPJ for them to enjoy, the 2 liters only commands around rm360 per year. You get the look, feel, but not the speed.

Are you after a car that looks good even while standing still? Or a car that looks good and can outdrag most others out there? Bear in mind, even a V8 engined BMW has to bow down to the boy racer Putras and Fairladys out there in terms of drag racing. ;)

i dun care if i can tapau putras or fairladies, larger cc engine really is a joy to drive especially hill climbing, ah i feel so syiok going genting, 3k rpm or below still can climb easily ;)

me getting old, don't feel any thrill in tapau-ing anyone. i prefer to take a leisurely, comfortable drive and i'm a law abiding citizen most of the time - 110km/h :)

i got some very good advice via pm too, and i think i really need to test drive the 520 and 525 before deciding. also i have not been driving a manual since 2006 (that was my last manual ride, been using auto all these while) and i've since gotten hold of a very old manual for temporary use and i think i really miss driving a manual car :)

Ermm... now you'd narrowing your choices to 525 with manual I see..520/525 with ori manual box is hard to find, most come with autos, now the hunt begin...which is for me the best part of owning a car.....so good luck!

p/s- if you want to be a law abiding citizen still...please stick to 520!!:D

1. u need to test drive the car first, is the power adequate for you? if not, u should be looking for 525i

2. u cannot expect the fuel consumption comparable to the car you own before

3. after test driving the car if you really have feeling juz buy it. bare in mind this is an nearly 20-year-old car, you really do need to spend some money and time to touch up it a bit (best if it is your 2nd car). if you don't appreciate it you will start to hate it when problems coming out one-by-one

4. first thing first after buying the car, check the engine cooling system to prevent overheating which is quite common in E34 (which is due to owner lack of maintenance).

Things to be checked:

water pump
thermostat
water hoses
fan clutch
radiator
timing chain tensioner (M50 engines using timing chain)

Cooling system cost estimation?
water pump
thermostat
water hoses
fan clutch
radiator

guys, above items would also address cold aircon besides overheating? what would roughly be the estimated cost?

Hi anakin, to me, e34 525i auto is the best solution..quite great at torque n top speed too..change to the big nose n front hood, 18' m5 rims wud be marvellous..believe me,people wont stop staring at yr ride..happy hunting...
