Dear sifus,i dont know wheater it is normal or not for bmw car to have a knocking sound like old car when hitting a pot hole or unevan road (tok tok sound). its quiet anoying to hear this sound comming from my car. i suspected this problem come from the arm or stearing rack coz avery work shop pointed this as the culprit. When in high speed the stearing also shaking. last time when its raining at MEX, my car almost crashed due to my car 'membuay' like snake(driving 80km/j). i dont think its the tyre coz the thread is still there (about 60%).so far the work don eto rectify this problem:1) change left front bearing and tie rod2) change stearing couplingso intended to:1) change right arm; or2) stearing rackdue to my budget restriction, can anyone sugest to change which one first.my gut say to go with the stearing rack but...hmmm..any sugestion sifus?:eek:thanks in advance.

BTW, what model is this???

For me, I would tackle it in this order;

1. Knocking sounds, could be steering assembly or mounting absorber..check that
2. Balancing and allignment all OK?
3. Uneven tyre wear/incorrect tyre size/offset
4. Worn bushes

All the best

Change the front control arm bushing and see if that solves the problem..while in there check if the balljoints for the control arms are still good.
