Something like this http://arcticshootingsupply.us/maxprofessionaland153allpurpose3siliconelubricant.aspx
In addition to uses like above, I use it regularly on the rubber around the windows to keep the glass moving freely, i also use it on the sun roof mechanism as that too is prone to damage if not kept lubed regularly. Do your local e46s come with the sunroofs as standard ? It does here

does the material look like grease? last time i saw my mech use some kind of silicone/grease to cover the hose end before plugging it to radiator. that is the material that i wanted to use...last time after DIY i didn't put that silicon/grease thingy..i thought maybe that thingy can help stop the leak..but i still couldn't find what thingy that my mech used last time...can some one help me identify this thingy....

Yeah some silicone grease would do the trick too. Its basically to stop the o-rings from slipping out when you push it into place. The lube will make the oring stay in place, if not the o-ring will slip out of its place and would result in a bad fit. Obviously this will create a leak. If you do try this then make sure the orings are in place. If you can take a picture of the hose I will get some pics of the same hose I removed and take some pics to show you how the orings should be.

EDIT: thought I will go and be proactive. Dug up one of the hoses I replaced and took a few pics for you to show what I meant. Hope this helps.

thanks bro for the info..i also guest that that the o-ring has slipped while the fitting was done..before i change to new hose, i noticed that the o-ring on the old hose has kaput..so than decided to change into new hose..just now ive gone to hardware store to buy the silicon stuff but found out the one they sold are not suitable to be use on car..will definitely go and check at car accessory store this weekend..

update 10/4/2012

last time when to my mech to get quatation for top overhaul and guest what..my work horse no more lost water after he done a pressure test...at least until now...its been 2 week now since last topup done..before that need to topup at least once every 2 days and that with a milage of 6km/day!!some how i cant stop thinking how this simple test done have solve my problem (for the time being)..remembering back last year, its also the pressure test done by the mech in penang that cause the water leakage at the first place.a coincidence maybe? any comment from sifus here??

Finally got my fund to repair the car...i send my car to mech in lembah beringin (i stay in Putrajaya) after being suggested by my friend..what i've thought will be justa simple top overhaul changed to engine transplant horror..its has been checked and confirmed that my engine block haus already and transplant is needed. At first i opted to do a full overhaul but not advisable due to the cost will shoot sky high (RM10k above) and time constrain (Raya just around the corner)..being told by him that all my piston must be change if opted for overhaul (RM1k/piece)....dang so expensive!..so cut short, i go for the engine transplant (RM2.5k engine kosong)..other than engine transpalnt, it will also be a full change in the cooling system as i don't want to be burden by water lost issues any more..also a bearing, bushing, and engine mounting change...still havent got the full quotation but being guarenty by him that all in will be no more than RM7k..is it reasonable sifus??

i did my engine transplant (model 2004, 318i) at Albert, Pandan which cost me slightly above RM7K after water sip engine. Long story after one another.
