After driving both the 428i and the S5, I would definitely go for the S5. The power and the quattro of the S5 is amazing.

Only thing about the E9x 335i is that the interior is a little dated and I prefer the newer systems on the Audi.
nice feedback Mavik, so for your view on driving experience S5 is better compared to 428i?
what about the interior wise comparing 428 and Audi system?

Err...which wife bro? Actually my wife prefers the Audi due to its practicality for her and the kids...but end up buying my dream car instead..hehe...well u know the man always gets the last say :D

Of all those listed above, for me the choice is obvious...I would go for the highest power, 6-cylinder powerful engine mated to the right powertrain and handling..also with the biggest potential for future mods...you can get a recon S5 non facelifted (2010 or 2011) for RM250+k only...facelift ones can get as low as RM270+k....of course this is recon not brand new compared to BMW with 5 yrs B-S RI....but there are other aftermarket warranties that can be bought separately for recon cars e.g Opal, WheelGuard, AutoGuard, etc..

p/s: DesertGoon, if you're reading this there's still time to cancel your booking and get the S5 instead hehehe...
Haha..
totally agree for the point that man alwz gets the last say

points taken for power wise = Audi wins..
i actually considering getting either Recon Audi A5/S5/Bmw 428i or brand new BMW 420i..

some of my fz and mechanics recommend me to get bmw new for warranty concern... but even if i go for recon bmw 428i its only 2013 dated..i presume it should not b dat bad right ? considered new in a way.. as long if the mileage is low.

I liked the S5 because of the Sound system and maybe it's because I feel that BMW's interior gotten a little boring.

But the difference in terms of driving, the 428i is lighter compared to the S5, the S5 is heavy so the driving dynamics for both are different.

In honesty, the S5 is always compared against the 435i ;)

i'm not an outright power driver so 420i... will be just fine. ;) these days i like to drive leisurely and in relax mode. :D

I too don't drive fast, I prefer looks more then power. But I don't wish to b slower or jst slightly faster then my Mazda 6 2.5..at least a bigger jump to feel that I've actually changed a ride [emoji6]

I offered the A5 to the Missus. By all accounts it should have been the Audi. It is roomier and airier in the back. It is more powerful. It has better equipment level. The cheaper of the two Audis, the A5 Sportsback has 4 doors and is significantly cheaper than the equivalent 428 Grand Coupe. The S5 is in a different league compared to the 428, but so is the price and waiting list. It is more in the 435 class. We were divided in the looks between the 4 Series and the A5.

But in the end, we chose the F32 4 series simply because:

1. The dash is indentical to our F30 3 Series. So when we switch cars, either of us will not need to readjust.
2. Both of our preference to and familiarity with BMWs.
3. The better ride and handling of the BMW.
4. We wanted an instant car, no waiting.

She is happy and me too.

P.S.

Notice there is a discrepancy in the spec sheet for the 420. The sportsline comes only with a single exhaust whilst the spec sheet says dual exhaust.

Very clear comparison segment n good points for the BMW owners converting to 4 series..

Correct me if I m wrong, u r saying the points for 1 - 4 are BMW 4 series vs A5?

Yup I do notice the sports line sheet that they said it's a dual exhaust but I c otw it's only 1 exhaust.. [emoji15]

Yes the comparison was against the A5.

We currently have both the F30 and F32. We drive the cars interchangeably. The Missus hates having to adjust herself to different cars.
We both prefer BMWs over Audis.
The ride and handling of the BMW 4 series is better than the Audi A5.
At the time when we wanted to replace our second car, the A5 had a min 6-9 months waiting list, which is unacceptable to us. BMW had available stock of the 4 series in the color we wanted.

yea..normally when a person too used to a specific brand they wont like to go for another brand.
ppl who likes benz wont like bmw.
then benz ppl won't really like bmw.
u've tested A5 2wd or the Quattro version? Quattro is the awd
wow 9 mths waiting list.. dats long..

good to hear this testimony from saat. i feel i have a reference if any doubts or questions after i take delivery of my car in the next few months. :D

I totally agree wif u for choosing BMW 4 over Audi A5/S5 for me is

1) class (status)
2) looks

Performance wise I would say Audi since they have more potential for upgrade to higher HP

Awesome info bro ...

My previous review and some consideration of the Audi S5 after I sold my 335i....

7-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission, All-wheel drive Quattro, Torsen limited slip centre differential, better interior and B&O Sound System, practical 4-door car with coupe-looking sportsback..

Now for some future potential upgrades...
Sportec Tunes Euro-Spec Audi S5 3.0T To 425-HP
Sportec’s tuning package offering consists of an air filter (that is oh-so-free-flowing) and an ECU remap. Naturally the forced inducted motor gets quite the boost from a retune and peak power jumps from 328-hp to 425-hp, close to a 100-hp gain. The torque increase isn’t as substantial, but still very respectable going from 325 ft-lbs to 379 ft-lbs. We’re guessing this simple pair of modifications makes our S4 (and their S5) an absolute blast to drive.

Labelled the ‘Stage One’ upgrade, Sportec’s S5 performance enhancement package consists of a free flowing air filter element and a carefully developed ECU remap. In combination this has a dramatic effect on the power characteristics of the supercharged 2995cc Audi engine, with peak power increasing from 328 bhp at 6000 rpm to 425 bhp at 6640 rpm, a significant gain of 97 bhp.
Similarly, Sportec’s Stage One upgrade delivers a prodigious increase in torque output on the Audi S5, producing a maximum of 520 Nm (379 lb.ft) at 4250 rpm, compared to peak figure of 440 Nm (325 lb.ft) from the factory.
Careful development by Sportec’s technicians ensures that over 80% of the maximum torque output is available from 2750 to 6250 rpm, which both perfectly suits the characteristics of the car’s 7-speed S-Tronic transmission and highlights the user-friendliness of the conversion.
The additional power and torque output realised by the Sportec Stage One upgraded Audi S5 considerably enhances the in-gear and fast cruising performance of the car, in keeping with its luxury GT credentials. However, when exercised to the full, it reduces the 0-62 mph (100 kmh) by 0.5 seconds to 4.6 seconds, while top speed is limited at 155 mph for safety reasons.

I saw a second question being asked concerning oil consumption.

The general opinion and experience of many is that turbocharged cars exibits a higher oil consumption than non-turbo charged cars. This is also my experience with my VW Golf MkV.

But my experience on BMW engines showed that it is not true. All my previous normally aspirated BMWs have never needed to be topped up with oil between service. This is also true on my 3 and 4 series, this is despite them being turbo-charged and a much higher service intervals.

Wow, that's great news.. Since it's not as frequent as other turbo charged cars.. Thx for the info, noted.. [emoji6]
