Hi,

I'm new to this forum, i'm planning to upgrade from my mazda 6 2/5 sports sedan to any of those stated above ..

wonder if sifu's in here can point out for the BMW wise for maintenance point for the 4 series would be a high cost factor for service? As for i know based on Audi club malaysia and few frds of mine that drives audi has this issue of topping up the engine oil in a very regular basis. wondering if BMW 4 series would have the same issues ?

what are the key points factors that needed to look for for buying a bmw 4 series ?

my budget would not be over Rm 300k preferbly

i have no driven a bmw n audi in my life so i have no idea how it feels.. will be checking out in the showrooms real soon to have a feel of it.
BMW (rwd wheel)
Audi (quattro all wheel drive)

for a budget around rm300k i would suggest you get a 420i... a sport line that is. never drove a bmw myself but last saturday i took the plunge for a 420i test-drive at bukit jalil promotion event. it felt special! :listen: then i went to glenmarie showroom and made a booking today. hoping to get the car by april/may. btw my wife just doesn't like audi.

here is some info for you...

great info DesertGoon,

Actually i'm so tempted to lock down to this 420i but i will do the test out real soon at Glenmarie to feel the driving experience n the power of it ..the only concern is the Hp is jst a small jump from my current mazda which is around 182hp n this 420i only 184hp :66:
But the outlook of the 420i is a killer.. Hands down compared to Audi A5. And i alwz hear that rwd is just to fun to drive.. i'm just wondering if the 420i can do any adjustment or ecu upgrade to near the 428i.. i like the 428i specs :69:

mind me asking you , what car are you upgrading from as in what car you are driving now for this 420i upgrade ? did u opt for the sports line package ? how much extra did you pay for it ?
what's the waiting list did they say ?

no worries about hp deficit... :motz: i read on the net that ecu tuning (eg. racechip etc) can bump the hp to a higher figure. :)

actually i'm keeping my family car ie. toyota wish. the 420i would be for leisure drive with wife... to add sport package cost me additional rm20k over the base model but i got rm8k discount so it wasn't too bad. :stupid: waiting period is about 4 to 5 months so don't delay your booking.

All depends on what you are looking for in the car, if performance + practicality I would get the Audi S5 Sportback V6 3.0 Supercharged...if power is not enough, it could be easily tuned and upgraded to ~400hp...btw, heard that the top-up engine oil issue only affects the 2.0L engine only..so I guess the S5 should be ok..

Do test drive both set of cars and listen to what your heart says...both marques are awesome but choose the one that matches your driving style and meets what you really look for in a car :thumbs up:

i'm gonna keep it for at least 3 yrs plus so wondering which car would keep me entertain . i like to mod my ride. its gonna b my daily car. and yeah i heard a lot of engine oil issues in 2.0 cars...i havent hear anything from S5 side..n thanks a lot for ur advice... i gonna test both cars to seen which suits my driving style....so far i only heard from thoery wise not physical testing yet.

i think if you want to get a s5 (or even a 428i) you have to up your budget. with a limited budget like myself i could only eye a 420i but i knew what i want. :D

yup, thats i'm having headache with... so gonna test this 420i and 428i to c if theres much difference in it.. and try to find around audi's to test it out as well.

My previous review and some consideration of the Audi S5 after I sold my 335i....

7-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission, All-wheel drive Quattro, Torsen limited slip centre differential, better interior and B&O Sound System, practical 4-door car with coupe-looking sportsback..

Now for some future potential upgrades...

Sportec Tunes Euro-Spec Audi S5 3.0T To 425-HP
Sportec’s tuning package offering consists of an air filter (that is oh-so-free-flowing) and an ECU remap. Naturally the forced inducted motor gets quite the boost from a retune and peak power jumps from 328-hp to 425-hp, close to a 100-hp gain. The torque increase isn’t as substantial, but still very respectable going from 325 ft-lbs to 379 ft-lbs. We’re guessing this simple pair of modifications makes our S4 (and their S5) an absolute blast to drive.

Labelled the ‘Stage One’ upgrade, Sportec’s S5 performance enhancement package consists of a free flowing air filter element and a carefully developed ECU remap. In combination this has a dramatic effect on the power characteristics of the supercharged 2995cc Audi engine, with peak power increasing from 328 bhp at 6000 rpm to 425 bhp at 6640 rpm, a significant gain of 97 bhp.
Similarly, Sportec’s Stage One upgrade delivers a prodigious increase in torque output on the Audi S5, producing a maximum of 520 Nm (379 lb.ft) at 4250 rpm, compared to peak figure of 440 Nm (325 lb.ft) from the factory.
Careful development by Sportec’s technicians ensures that over 80% of the maximum torque output is available from 2750 to 6250 rpm, which both perfectly suits the characteristics of the car’s 7-speed S-Tronic transmission and highlights the user-friendliness of the conversion.
The additional power and torque output realised by the Sportec Stage One upgraded Audi S5 considerably enhances the in-gear and fast cruising performance of the car, in keeping with its luxury GT credentials. However, when exercised to the full, it reduces the 0-62 mph (100 kmh) by 0.5 seconds to 4.6 seconds, while top speed is limited at 155 mph for safety reasons.

Sadly I bought another ride, sometimes still thinking of this car...that's correct bro at stage 1 u can bump the Audi up to 100bhp..that's not even touching the hardware yet I/C, dp's, exhaust, turbos etc...I have sort of maxxed out my 335i with full bolt-on hardwares last time at stage 2 but getting around 430hp only..

U can view the 335i's list of mods here:

i actually did consider of getting the 335i over A5 if my budget were lower... 430hp wow, madness.. how does it feel with that much hp on jst rwd ?
S5 its a AWD n i believe the traction ctrl would be more stable but then the fun drive would of course goes to BMW..

based on reviews on frds feedbacks, AUDI has many potential upgrades to play compare to bmw... jst my 2 sen opinion.
seeing from your previous 335i to this model 4 series coupe , would it satisfied your needs for such low hp ? but i presume u like BMW a lot since u nxt ride is bmw once more

430hp, 550Nm on RWD is...FUN..easy to do power slides
On AWD..feels more stable and in-control...probably faster around corners too

p/s: I didn't get a BMW after the e92 335i... :( sorry but I guess for me the 420i or even the 428i falls short of my expectations in both looks and performance wise

Silverbullet : may b as u said u can't pick Audi bcoz ur wife doesn't like it.. Hehe [emoji16]

Erm, for ur experience n ur knowledge.. If I m looking for a torque (pickup) feel & I like to attack corners.. Which would u recommend based on my driving style? Audi or BMW? In measurements of A5/S5/BMW 420i/428i

After driving both the 428i and the S5, I would definitely go for the S5. The power and the quattro of the S5 is amazing.

Only thing about the E9x 335i is that the interior is a little dated and I prefer the newer systems on the Audi.

Err...which wife bro? Actually my wife prefers the Audi due to its practicality for her and the kids...but end up buying my dream car instead..hehe...well u know the man always gets the last say :D

Of all those listed above, for me the choice is obvious...I would go for the highest power, 6-cylinder powerful engine mated to the right powertrain and handling..also with the biggest potential for future mods...you can get a recon S5 non facelifted (2010 or 2011) for RM250+k only...facelift ones can get as low as RM270+k....of course this is recon not brand new compared to BMW with 5 yrs B-S RI....but there are other aftermarket warranties that can be bought separately for recon cars e.g Opal, WheelGuard, AutoGuard, etc..

p/s: DesertGoon, if you're reading this there's still time to cancel your booking and get the S5 instead hehehe...
