My UDM CAUSING ME HEADACHE

HaiIve just bought my UDM in May 2011..after driving it till now ive noticed problem keep apearing. 1st the aircond pulley fail(go to change it n cos me rm600 including change of belting).2nd; the mechanic say that my lower front arm is a bit loose n need to be change..he quote me around rm1200 for the hole work(headache!)..3rd; i notice the aircond hose has fail(crack),i think thats why my aircond not cool??..4th;disk break need to be change..5th;rear tyre almost botak also..all of the above have been making me pening and tido xlena..can please the sifus here advice me which part need to be done first in according to the priority...beside the part that ive mention need to be change,ive also wanted to change my ride rims(present 17") to 18" and lowered my ride(this one i gatai2 racun my self.hehe)...please sifus2 advice me on this matter n please do so quote your estimated cost for all the repair need to be done..P/s: my first ride n proud owner of a beemer!

It is quite common to buy a second car and expect to do some routine maintenance.

This is due to the previous owner not taking good care of the car. It is mentality of some of
owner of passing the cost to the next owner.

Suggest that you send it to a reputable workshop to change all parts that need to change
to get the car back in tip top condition.

spend a couple of thousand and you should all right. btw, some of the price listed is bit high.

Thank for the advice bro jarance..my ride sure got alot of problem considering i get it at a cheap price (Rm50k only)..the prob is im quite low on cash..that why i need to priotise on which to be done first..im thinking on doing the lower arm(it cause free play n quite anoying) first then go for the lowered spring coz hate seing my front ride so high (about 4 half finger)..what do you think bro jarance?

IMHO, 1st, replace the air cond hose and its not expensive..
2nd disc can be skimmed by the specialist workshop..did mine and still running well..
3rd Replace the lower arms at recommended wshop..refer to the forum thread
4th Go for 18' rollers..

well, a racun in disguise..hehe..i did the skimming around 120myr in B.pahat..i heard it can be done twice only then u replace with new one..come down to BP and i will show u a heavenly 'rim sukan' shop..many replicas to choose from..

my suggestion:

#1- aircond pulley & belt. u dont want to let the aircond compressor damage or else your pocket will have another hole
#2- brake disk to be skimmed. suits u in ur tight budget now. change later
#3- aircond hose.
#4- buy 2nd hand tyre. cheap & having better thread
#5- do ask is it the control arm bushing or the control arm that need to be changed. if it is bushing, it cost less 250. change it later pun ok.
#6- Change spot rim is the last thing on the list....

my advise: encik mielo86, upgrade should come later. what's more important is that your car should able to perform its duty - moving. what's the point of having a cool car but stranded beside the road. however, its my personal opinion la.

i was in a deep shit like u few months ago: radiator leak, aircond condesor leak, aircond speed broken, head gasket blown, top gasket expired, aircond n alternator belts expired, pulley n tensioner worn, bushing gone, wheel bearing whistling etc.. haha. Now all changed n i must admit my old pony e36 runs smooth than newer cars on the road

I think worn tires should be replaced first, looking at your list of problems. Can be dangerous if you're running on bald tires, especially in the wet. And yes, the prices quoted are actually quite expensive. Try getting quotes from other workshops and refer to the list of recommended workshop like bro JFT mentioned.

Thanks sifu..your post terus kasi tusuk my heart..u got a point there.rims will come last in my list..the pulley n belting already done..tomorrow will go change the aircond hose..i notice the sponge got thick and rapuh n can easily break..it occur to me that avery time i open the hood a new problem will rise...after this kena kasi tutup itu hood ketat2 la..will not open untill i hear a kaboom sound..hehe

Haiya...racun manyak kuat...raya is just around the corner bro..ive to prepare duit raya for my nice so no budget to go shoping for a new rim sukan..hehe

Mielo86, consider youself still fortunate. There are many other large ticket parts that could require replacement in an E46 by now. I take it that your power steering and other hydraulic hoses are fine, your shocks don't need replacement, and neither do a host of expensive sensors on your car. Put aside 15k for contingencies, and if your luck continues, that amount will cover your initial year parts and labour.

Chill bro. It's pretty common to do fixing when u buy a second hand car. However, u're gonna love UDM once it's all done. It's gonna worth every penny u spend. Trust me bro. But other members have a good point. Your visual mods should come last, at least until u've sorted out and fixed your UDM properly bro. Try going to WP Auto and see Albert Fang. He's a good mechanic and a nice chap. Gotta say that I couldn't be happier with my UDM. Peace..

Bro mizhan..hope my luck runs long enough till next year..so far my engine is still ok n havent fail me yet..the performance part dosent bother me now just that the handling part need to be taken care of..a bit here n abit there...overall averything is ok la..just need adjustment to my pocket to make my UDM the ultimate drive machine(ayat over)

hehe that is Racun, but still need to prioritize the other parts to replace before getting the rollers..rims and suspension set-up should come last in your list..IMHO

Just went to check my aircond hose n found out that my aircond compresor is not ori..previous owner change with cokia one..been told the hose in no problem,the crack part is just the exterior sponge raping the hose..fuhh,quite lega when he say like that..so i ask what the prob n he sugest just to change the aircond filter..he quote to me for about rm150..is it resonable or ive been con?
