Recently changed the rear axle big bush to eliminate the 'klunk' sound when shift to reverse.

Drive train now feels so solid and gear shifts smoother. Couple this to the recent autofoam treatment, the car feels nice and tight.

Changed it at my usual place - Mspeed. Thank you Ah Meng!

Bro, curious. How much did you pay for this fix? Need to do mine as well.

Costs only RM250 including labour. Also includes the axle fluid, which was drained out and replaced.

Oh thats quite reasonable. Thanks mate, will see Ah Meng soon.

Sharing some of the Autofoam pictures I took. Shows how the foam oozzes out as it expands through the days:

Its been almost a week now and the car feels so much more solid compared to day 1 or day 2. Now its fully hardenned. Highly recommended mod.

While doing some spirited driving on Sunday night, my transmission suddenly had a 'konk' sound....then it started behaving in a funny manner. There was juddering when the rpms are too low, as if the torque converter's auto locking function is not unlocking. It was still drivable, just that the the gear changes felt a little 'nervous'.

Anyway I knew it was about time. The car had been running on its original transmission, unmolested, for 200,000km. It was high time for a rebuilt. So i sent it to MSpeed yesterday morning for a diagnostic. No fault codes either from the gearbos or the engine. So looks like its a purely wear and tear in nature.

Went to check on it in the evening again. They had taken down the transmission and sent it off for a rebuilt. Apparently the torque converter was still good, but the clutch plates had lots of wear. It was recommended that i change the pump too. So it will take a couple of days for the rebuilt and cost some money.

I the meantime I rented a Saga for my transport needs. I really miss my car and really look forward to get it back in a few days, with a healthier and stronger transmission no lest!

Here are a few pics, with the transmission un-mounted.

Hope it gets well and stronger soon . Do update on the outcome . cheers

Took my car from MSpeed last Friday.

They changed the plates, oil pump, solenoids, oils seals, oil cooler, fresh transmission oil, service and clean the whole transmission body etc. Also updated the software for both the engine and transmission ECUs.

Now the car feels so good and tight. Gearchanges are smooth and tout. Firm and authoritative. I also changed the gear switch, just to be on the safe side. So the snick-snick feeling when manually shifting gears is so nice and solid.

Throttle modulation is also much smoother now.

Am very happy with the whole rebuilt. Costs a bunch but worth every penny. Should have done it earlier.

I have been searching high & lows for someone who shares the same transmission issue as mine and yours is the exact replicate of mine, ie. jerking/juddering during low RPM gear changes (as if torque converter unable to lock into the gears), occasional KONK sound when downshifting etc. Sent to M-Scope for diagnostic when first got my ride but found no error/fault codes hence been putting off the rebuilt for some time.

Current milleage is approx 185k km and think it's time for rebuilt too. Care to share the costs of the full rebuilt, parts replaced and time required?

Bro Wingzee,

I sent you a pm already with the list of parts and costs.

Had been facing some reduced low end performance recently, car seems less responsive to throttle inputs in low rpm. So, during my routine service yesterday it was discovered that my Adjuster Unit is not functioning well.

An adjuster unit's function is to vary the length of the intake runners.

At low rpm (4.1k), the flap opens to allow air into the shorter runners, helping volume efficiency and high speed power.

So Ah meng ordered one and had it changed.

Immediatley my low end torque returned. Car feels so much more 'lusty' in the low revs, like a bridegroom on his first wedding night! The new adjuster unit allowed the torque to feel so strong, so thick slurpy, and so lasting, all the way to higher rpm. I was having so much fun driving and using this rediscovered torque. Really nice.

So, if your car has similar symptoms such as reduced low end torque, or some vibration in idling (especially morning), your adjuster unit may be due for change.

This is how it looks like:
(This is just a sample image, as i forgot to take picture while they were changing mine). Think the below is M52 engine but the placement is same as M54 in the E46 325i.

Nice sharing, coffee. Got mine replaced few months ago for about RM900. Guess price should be around there. The only surprise is I did not know my failed as couldn't feel any difference in responsiveness and idling. It was during replacement of one of the piping for the cooling system that the mech came to realize the flap of the adjuster unit is broken.

This month i did many things to my car.

In addition to the above mentioned Adjuster Unit, i also changed the Oil Separator, and Torque Converter.

When Mspeed was changing the Adjuster unit, they discovered small traces of oil around the Adjuster unit area. It was still fresh. Ah MEng mentioned probably the recent malfunction of the AU had caused the pressure inside to be unbalanced, hence small amount of the oil actually got sucked up. So to be on the safe side, i decided to change the Oil Separator too. So we took out the Oil Separator and discovered small traces of oil on the piping. Not much, but still it was present. The oil separator was changed just 2 yrs ago, so still quite new. Still can use, but i decided to change it anyway.

Also decided to change the Fuel Filter, as it was overdue.

The Adjuster Unit. The diagphram inside was broken, hence the flap only moves a little, and cannot close properly.

The Oil Separator. Small traces of oil around the pipe. So i changed it just in case.

One hole is for Adjuster Unit to go in. Another hole is my throttle body. Happy with my throttle body as it was soooo clean!

Now the car feels even more powerful and smooth......
