Field report - 07.07.2011
After fitting the seals the night before, I was up early the following morning to fit those caps back on my rims. First 3 caps fitted perfectly. I even purposely tried to push the caps myself to see whether they were still loose, but thankfully, they fitted snugly.
But problem arose with final cap. Felt that the rubber seal was a bit bloated, and had problems putting it on and locking them. Tried applying some WD40 and used a small hammer in the hopes of making the seals a bit flatter, but to no avail. Ended up resorting to using my barefeet to slowly kick the caps into place so the rubber seals will hopefully be forced into the gap.
Knowing how useless I am at DIY, I struggled initially. Even resorted to exchanging the caps with the other 3 wheels, but the same problem existed. So I knew the problem must be with that very cap + seal itself. I almost wanted to give up and replaced the new seal with the previous ones, and eventhough it went on without a hitch, it was still loose and I really hated the sound it would make when I am driving.
So, tried and tried again, using my feet to kick the caps, and my thumbs became numb from the constant forcing of the keys to try and lock it. So, end result? Took me almost 30mins for the final cap, and voila, finally in place.
And hell no I ain't gonna open THAT cap anymore.
So, a big thank you to Mizhan and Badrul for recommending the fresh set of seals as the remedy to my problems. You guys are Alpina legends. :top:
Sharing a few close up shots, will try to take more pics soon.
Car looks superb with the rims + caps in place.
PS: Hope nobody noticed something lying on the floor in the last pic. :24:
