MY E36 1.8 Thinking upgrade engine which better perfomance and less maintenance???

Hi all bimmers Sifu my E36 1997 now millenge hits to over 350k pretty well maintance almost every 35k change oil and once a year gear box oil change. But recently thinking to upgrade for 2.5 engine but i recommeded from my friends better got 2.0 engine year above 1997 better performance and engine not much give problem...i want to find more datail if anyone here can pin point me which engine have a decent performance and reliability...i dun need perfomance like M3 but at least can feel a bit M POWER...if compare e36 1.8 been 8years old with me .....time to feel Power and pleasure diving...i love my e36 very much beside under power nothing much i can ask for more...

Ideal way -M50B25TU ............

Best way - M50B25TU stroke to 3.0 or 3.2 .....

try to avoid 2.0 @ M50B20TU or M52B20TU and 2.3 @ M52B25TU cos dun think worth for money u going to spend again d performance u getting unless its very very cheap ......

If possible , convert to 5 speed auto box (either Jatco or ZF) will do together or even better wit manual tranny .....

The US spec E36 M3 is basically a bored and stroked M50TUB25, cc increased from 2.5l to 3.0 liter producing 240hp...
If you have money, anything oso can do one..

steve_ttb, if you want power and easy maintenance, I guess the M42B18 from the 318is is the best compromise..

or get the manual gearbox for your current 318i M43B18, it's a big difference between the auto and manual...

yes ...as Fabian said ......wat u need is to get d US spec M3 3.0 or 3.2 stroke kit icld crank , conrod and piston .........For 3.0 u can use back ur 2.5 injector but for 3.2 better change to at least 2.8 injector .......

after d conversion ...its adviceable to re-chip or remap d setting te get d optimum power ....if possible get d M3 cam as well.......

Actually i just re paint my belove...i like this colour so much and the paint job done in Subang very near to Ah Meng M speed,the boss is young indian guy he done a lots nice car bodies kids modication...all types of drift car u can see in his workshop and workman ship damm good and he own 3shops lots all doing repaint and modification bodies kids...price also very resonable...nice person and highly recommended!!!

M42B18 has 1796cc same as the M43B18 but M42 has 140hp vs the 115hp of the M43..

M50B20 (2.0) has ~150hp..
M50B25 (2.5) has ~190hp..
M52B28 (2.8) has ~192hp.. but much higher torque compared to the M50B25

Emmm...now i have better view thanks for detail summerize bcos i really not so good in engine all the while i only know how to upgrade my E36 interior and exterior look perfectly great and need...but not for engine yet so now time for upgrade my e36 engine to complete my vision...interior,exterior and engine then perfect...i thinks will go for 2.5cc seem more popular choice and better maintenance right???

if you're inclined towards the 2.5l engine, go for it. the 2.5l vanos engine (M50B25TU) is an appreciable step up from the 4 cylinder engine in your ride. you'll be able to feel the smoothness and power hike.

Thanks and now my problem how to get this good condition 2.5 engine,all potong kerete sure will said their half cut engine very good condition but i really not expect to find out what is consider good condition...everyone here can recommend or suggest which potong kereta have a good condition half cut engine...very appreciate..
