Bro seewai, my aux fan only turns only during traffic jams after i replaced my fan clutch..i did try leaving the engine running for about 30 mins, it didnt turn but the air cond was cold..i was quite confused but things have been good to me eversince the replacement of the fan clutch..

I have faulty external temp sensor and it shows -40 celcius degree on my instrument cluster..so far it does not really bother me as the air cond is still blowing cold. The only prob is i cant run the air cond in auto mode. It blows at the highest speed at night but the opposite during day drive.

Thanks for your input sir.

Just rushed home from Jalan Ipoh KLPAC, had a moderate run at the very low traffic Penchala Link. After reaching home, before I open the gate, I heard "tick-tick" sound, listen closely again, came from the rear side...

Bro, chill. That just sounds like the heat expansion of the exhaust :D Normal when you have huge metal pipes and 5 liters of hot burnt government subsidized petrol going through it

Unless your M5 somehow has an auto-leveling suspension, there shouldn't be anything else creating that noise when your engine is off.

What were you watching in KLPAC, btw?

Bro Game-R,

The sound is just so loud. I know it's the hot exhaust 'shrinking' losing heat :)

I went to an office located near KLPAC to work on some problem.

That means its sounding louder than your video?
The only thing that comes to mind might be the metal heat insulation panels around the rear exhaust boxes might be loose.
Try wearing insulated glove and reach inside and press down the heat insulation panel. See if that softens or kills the sound. Otherwise you might need a mechanic to just check on the conditions of the rubber bushings for the exhaust mounts.

Update 28 Jul 2012

I found the original fenders thanks to OM fariz.hashim.
Also found a few other "small items" whilst in the junkyard.
So the next question in line, want to seek your opinion as well, after removal of the carbon-fibre-look sticker at the roof, should I spray the roof:

a) Black
b) Matching with car body, Titanium Silver
c) Any other recommendation

So far my wife opts for a), I opt for b), haven't asked my son how he wants his future first car to be :4:

The rims:

a) Black
b) gun metallic (factory colour look-alike?)
c) two layer - base black + surface silver (factory colour?)
d) any other suggestion

Many thanks.
seewai

I recently had an issue with the coolant temp climbing near the 3/4 mark on the gauge while driving, whether or not I was pushing the car hard. Temp would come down soon after I idle (at the traffic lights for example). Aux fan would kick in on high most of the time with both aircon running and off. Suspected faulty thermostat and/or coolant temp sensor.
Changed both and the aux fan no longer kicks in at full speed, even when idling. Have not had the chance to take the car for a drive yet as I have the exhaust off waiting for parts to come in but I think the issue is solved.
Read on a few forums that the coolant temp sensor is not very reliable and should be changed at every coolant flush (2 years)

my humble opinion shiny black for the roof and original color for the rims.

It depends on how you'd like to depict your ///Monster to the public. You want to highlight its performance go for the contrasting black on the roof and rims. If you want to keep it in the "silent Hitman" look (which I personally prefer), minimize the contrasting colours and keep it close to the original colours. If you want to highlight it's status, go for enhanced shine.

IMHO, since your car is fully silver, its could would benefit from a slightly darker color for the rims. To me, the best option is the gun metal grey as the fellas on Wheeler Dealers did to the M5 on their show : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqjL3QYmDk8
The shine keeps the car status, while the darker grey color helps you get away with less cleaning the rims of brake dust.

well it's quite a long video but somehow i finished watching it. lol. thanks for the link.
also the m5 wheels really look good in gunmetal metallic. looks meaner. suits well with it's name "m5".

Bro, how much did you get the fenders, and where? Got any more?

RM400 / pair incl shipped to workshop. If you're still interested I think my friend has the RHS for sale. I haven't viewed its condition and no idea about asking price though.

Checked and found the part numbers:

E81/82/87/88/38/39/46/90/91/92/93/60/61/63/64/65/66/67/68/85/86/89/52 & F01/02 Coolant Temperature Sensor - 65 81 6 905 133
E34/E39/Z8 Thermostat - 11 53 7 835 558

The former may cost a finger or two but the latter is gonna cost an arm.

Both E39's back home clean within 1 hour, short journey from Rasta TTDI.

Hey mate,

You have the wrong part number for the coolant temp sensor. The part number is 13 62 1 433 077 (same as E46 M3)
I purchased it at Inner Power @ Jalan Ipoh for RM65

Thanks for pointing out bro.
The temperature sensor you mention 13 62 1 433 077 at "Cooling System Water Hoses" is a different sensor from 65 81 6 905 133 "Temperature sensor".
I'll include your recommendation into the troubleshooting part list.

I suspect it is unlikely that 65 81 6 905 133 "Temperature sensor" is faulty as the "exterior temperature" shown in meter cluster is normal.

Yup, the coolant temp sensor is usually the one that goes kaput!
