Guys, anyone's done a retrofit of M5 steering wheel, the ones with paddle shifters for their E60. Appreciate if you could share ur experience/issues. I understand it won't fit/work for every model.Bozo

yes they have a pre 09/05 type and post 09/05 type of steering...

they are direct plug and play for e60 that have SMG or SAT gearbox...

but for normal steptronic gearbox then need to tap to the manual mode shift switch...also depends on the steering column cluster if there is spares coil ribbon cable...

DIYed mine and so far so good...

Sounds complicated. So does it work for steptronic gearbox? Anything required to make it work? Appreciate if could share.

mine is the normal steptronic gb and it works fine...but with the paddle shifters i foresee my gb will kong soon due to excessive & rough use of the manual mode... :p

Hi guys,

I have a 645CI and want to retrofit the pedal shifters. i have the wiring in place for the steptronic gb but i need the steering column for the SMG gb. as far as i know, the E60 and E64 steering colums are the same. However, my BMW guy here needs a part # for the SMG steering column to order it. a stupid problem but i guess that's how it is.

Here's a pic of my current steering column. anyone can help me out?
