My search for e39 continues while waiting for my audi to be sold...Meantime scratching my itchy backside doesn't really have any impact hence went ahead with this latest purchase.Just couldn't contain my own excitement after taking delivery last week. This is my 2nd citroen. Used to own 8V but 16V is totally different play...:love:As citroen forum is no longer active (& autoworld forum is not really fun), this LOST SOUL can only share the excitement with fellow car enthusiast here :)View attachment 19300View attachment 19299View attachment 19301

Wah, wicked... I think Yazmeen used to own one as well. Paging for Yazmeen...

An upgraded version of Proton Tiara..:4:

Yup...the difference though, this lil devil wears the TIARA that the other lost it ;)

The good side however, some parts are interchangeable....hahahaha.

So possibly, it may still be affordable to maintain & easy to find replacement parts (hopefully)

Yes definitely agree based also on my previous experience with 8v version. 16v is definitely much powerful. Yet to really test car as now am changing some parts.

Will slowly restore this beauty of my to (hopefully) pristine condition.

Immediately some changes on list now:
- new alternator & belt
- used aircon condenser
- replaced 1 faulty ACAV
- new gear knob
- redo some minor wiring
- new timing belt, bearings etc (planned for next service)

Future
- worn out underarms etc
- rear axle condition. replace if required
- find original door mats
- repaint :)

Just got back earlier from workshop. Here's what has been done.
- new alternator & belt
- used aircon condenser
- replaced 1 faulty ACAV
- new gear knob
- new battery

Will monitor for next couple of days if any further leakage at condenser. Aircon is back to cold :)

Most electrical is working fine now (except the wrongly wired power window) with new alternator & belt.

With both ACAV working, can feel the boost kicking in at 3.5k rpm :)

Now car in workshop doing some minor refurbishing to make it back into pristine condition.

Changing:
-Servicing and/or worn power steering components (drive shaft cover etc)
-complete lower arm (ori)
-link rods (ori)
-clutch kit (ori)

Now in dilemma whether to change engine to the more powerful gti-6.....hmmmmm

Citroen parts are hard to come by in my place..good luck with yr french project

I drove the 8v 1.9l many years ago. My 2nd car after Proton Knight. Plate number MAC 201. Very2 nice car. The seat is very comfortable. Come with 'passive 4-wheel steering'. I remember taking the road to Kota Bharu through Raub and Gua Musang, very stable car.

yes agree, seats are great :) luckily mine still intact nicely. Just the back seats fabric is slightly torn at joint. Overall i must say condition is great for 18yrs old car!!! will post pic of interior soon.

this creature is best when taking winding roads....couple years back with my old 8v (2.0), went to Belum resort using the North-West highway from Penang via Grik. It was darn nice drive. Needless to say, can't avoid police in bushes :(

Got car back sun after changing link rods, tie rods & power steering related components. funnily i yet to change lower arm, those squeaky sounds are gone!!! nonetheless will still change lower arm (mechanic advised against just changing bushes etc) so i return those items & now awaiting a complete lower arm.

Clutch kit yet to be changed coz not enough time. Since awaiting 16v clutch cable, decided to do it another time as complete clutch replacement.

Also i just sent car earlier for tint & sound proofing. Will collect car tomorrow evening. Cant wait for final result!!!!

Post some pics after tint & sound proofing completed.

Slowly doing up car & next probably could be new paint. Thinking of vinyl wrap but challenge is my current paint is not best of condition so if do car wrap, it may not yield best results.

Wheels & subsequently brake systems will also be upgraded :)

hahaha...any sample of silver grey??? i'm still open to suggestion. For now, i've matt colour in my mind.

As for rims kinda feel 15" is a bit small. Now on peugeot 16" rim. Plan to use 17". Probably i'll keep an eye open for the ori 15" as spare in case i got tired of 17" look

spend whole day in ukay doing up my lil devil.......came back driving with a grin and consistent speed of 150km/hr via DUKE!!!

will post some pics later

July goodies

Here we go....goodies in a snapshot.
View attachment 25449View attachment 25465

Consists of:
-complete 16v clutch kit
-clutch cable
-complete lower arm & ball joint
-gearbox mounting
-bottom mounting
-gear linkages
-refurb ori air filter & box
-drive shaft covers

1st off, dismantle gearbox. For some reason, previous owner change the clutch kit from 16v to 8v. As 8v uses different fork & lever, i need to scout for long time ori 16v gear fork & lever. Possible reason why previous owner decided to use 8v is probably due to much cheaper cost (8v complete clutch kit is close to 2times cheaper) and maybe lighter when depressing the clutch.

Out with the old

Old vs new (side-by-side comparison) with flywheel

In with the new complete 16v ori clutch kit & cable. The old 8v clutch kit still looks pretty good in condition (no photos) & probably will just post for cheap sale in mudah

Next off, taking out drive shaft for service & change all covers
View attachment 25456View attachment 25457View attachment 25458

Remove aftermarket air filter system & change back to ori air filter system
View attachment 25459View attachment 25460

Mountings (gearbox & bottom) changed. Again old mountings didnt really seem totally worn out. Just some very slight crack starting to appear around the rubber. Anyway new will always give you that tight ride!!!
View attachment 25461

Change complete lower arm rather than only bushes...cost a bomb but believe investment is much better than changing only bushes. Took back old lower arm and didnt seem too bad either. Probably will keep the lower arm & change its bushes as spare for future use or just sell it off in mudah as complete set.

Ride now is tight (with new lower arm, mountings) and clutch is light.

Psychologically seems acceleration has much better response. Unsure if the whole process of doing all this where car battery is disengaged, it reset the superchip that the car comes with. Yes, the car was superchipped by previous owner. This is something that I'm highly appreciative of coz you can't seem to be able to buy it now. Unless the other alternative is to change the engine to peugeot 306 gti-6.

While awaiting my car to be done, did meet up with couple of 16v owners where all of them has changed engine to gti-6.

Anyway, I'm happy with what was done today. Now itching to have a drive....

Damn nice car, keep up d good work. Have nots een one on d road 4 a long time. Pity. Post more pics pls.

Merdeka treat...

Decided to service the rear axle though it has not made any significant noises. Since i've completed front treatment, it would be nice to re-do the back.

However, prior to that, hit a nasty pothole in early hours & heavy rain few days before merdeka. A bitch pothole....below is the damaged rim (front passenger side). Been driving with damaged rim for last few days until yesterday when i serviced the rear axle, sent rim to be rectified.
View attachment 26235View attachment 26236

Some pics on the rear axle servicing.

Luckily i decided to do up rear axle. Look at those worn out seals, bearings and also axle pins (esp. left pin, which is rusted & almost smoothen)
View attachment 26237View attachment 26238View attachment 26239

Rather than using a new pin (made from china), decided to go ahead with reasonably good conditioned refurbished pin. Key reason is "China mari" the steel content is lesser and thinner compared to ori.
View attachment 26240View attachment 26241

New seals & bearings installed
View attachment 26242View attachment 26243

Finally rear axle pins installed
View attachment 26244View attachment 26245

Unable to really test the car as damaged rim doesnt permit me to go all the way. Will be fetching back the rim on monday evening.

A proper rear aligned should be l--l rather than /--\ or /--| or |--\
View attachment 26261

Seems to me back height is a bit tad too high. May visit him again to re-adjust. He did say he didnt adjust much coz when he slide the whole steel via axle housing, it was a good fit hence he left at that height. He did notice my ride slightly lower prior to axle service.
