i would have to agree with bro haywire..There was a time where i thought 2.0 is good enuff for me..then i opted for 325. sold it and 525 is my ride now..the verdict?? better fuel consumption n power..road tax is slightly higher but quite the same in terms of the maintenance..think about it...

get a 2.5 minimum.......road tax not too hard(as opposed to a 2.8) but power almost at par but torque tak boleh lawan laaaa.....
i get 400 miles ++ on a full tank = approx 650 kms ('97 528i)

as much as I would like a 525 to start with, it was difficult to find one in the condition that I like or would buy. as it is my first UDM, let's start slowly. once addicted, will look for more power. one step at a step will be more enjoyable.

ABCowner, well just enjoy your new ride and join us for Friday TT whenever you are free.

where does quick reply goes to. I posted something using that but it didn't appear. Not sure if that went somewhere or it didn't get posted as my line got disrupted.

Collected my e39 and so far so good. Got the expansion tank, flywheel oil seal, ATF changed together with service. One thing I missed was the electric seat on passenger side. Researched a bit and a bit confused what need to be changed exactly
1) The cable for RM120 as indicated in this forum
2) some plastic gearing that can be replaced with metal one (RM200+)
3) some nip of existing cable which can be DIY if you fancy that ( from some american forum)

All sound logical to me but don't know which one is a balance option.

the reclining is not working properly. one side is not moving, hence the seat get twisted.

Get it repair from this workshop. The bowden cable (inside the seat) needs replacement.

hi herbert....that would be the bowden cables..........he he....

or the baldwin brothers....they shud b replaced as well....

not sure if this should move to e39 section but I'll leave it to admin.

notice that the shock is a bit soft on the e39 and was wondering what is the best standard option which give the best ride. My Audi is on Titan but I don't think I want to go down that route for e39. Its seems the Bilstein B8 or something is quite a good compromise. Any great suggestion?

Standard shock for e39 is soft for comfort. e 39 M sport version is stiffer. If you want to maintain comfort, stick to original (Sach/Boge). If you want stability at high speed & taking fast corners, replace your front (22.5 mm) and rear (13mm) anti-roll bars with Eibach anti-roll bars (front 25 mm & rear 18 mm).

I'm using eibach coils on sachs at front and boge at rear..am having a great time with the low down look n never have sagging issues underneath the car..a bit stiffer but still reasonably comfortable.

Hey welcome to the forum there... Yeah Herbert put it quite well abt us being the males and our never ending quest for more power.... It's a guy thing driving these wheels and that's why you're on board this forum mate :) next stop for me though... World domination hah :) welcome fellow E39er, enjoy your stay here...

the contentment with 2.2litre power didn't last very long. realising that a higher cc car may be more economical on the fuel got the brain working overtime. Probably a 530 would be more fun.

We told you before isnt it...hahaha. So now looking for 530i?

Come come join the 3 litre kakis...

Thankfully E32s didn't come any smaller than the 730i.

Anyways, E39 530is are pretty uncommon here. :p

So far the only time I've come across them is via the forums - Haywire bro being number 1 example, the other being Harbhajan. :4:

Haiya got quite a few la. Me, harbhajan, realred, he-whose-name-cannot-be-mentioned, and sometimes see on the roads too. Most were 530i SE though, not many M-sport.
