Idea and Suggestion

The way I see it, the main objective of getting together as a club is to encourage camaraderie amongst members. To me, major events involves participation of families. When guys gather together, they can have discussions about their rides and share their experiences. Wives can discuss shopping with girlfriends while kids can get to know other kids. Am I not right to say that? If the club's gonna be self-centric to only men, sooner or later, wives and gfs will be revoking their other halves' visa.

Car related programmes such as detailing clinics, tyre workshops, etc usually only generates minimal interest and attendance. Not entirely member's lack of interest but restrictive participation by organisers. The last couple of workshops i.e. detailing, leather seats, security system only allow about 20-25 pax max to attend due to space, resources and time contraint as dictated by organisers. So, it is impossible to make car-related programmes such as those mention to be major events.

However, rest assured car related programmes are definitely part of our itinerary and will be planned on a more adhoc basis where participation is usually first-come-first-serve.

It's easy to say 'Just wait for 7 days and if there's no response from BMW Malaysia, go ahead with our plans'. Then what difference are we from other unofficial car clubs? Might as well go join those club instead. B)

"...Nevertheless we r obligated in some ways to protect their brand & reputation, so ther4 we ned not go overboard in awaiting their absolute approval, so long as we have been mindful of their requirements..."

With due respect Tuan, that's the difference. If 7 is not enuff then how abt 70? ...again, it's just my 2 cents worth. If it ain't, just ignor what I said, u guys kno do your best.Tq. :)

DD, that's a good point.

Just wondering, what's the difference between an "official" club vs. a "non official" club?

Sure, as an "official" club, we gotta follow certain rules and guidelines, yes, but what do we get, if any, in return?

Just wondering, and I'm sure many of our members would be keen to find out the potential benefits from joining an "official" vs. "non official" club. Well, other than the "official" tag, of course.

With all due respect, 2cents

The committee is presently working very hard to meet all requirements set, but unfortunately it seem that a small niche of members are still not satisfied with the progress achieved so far.

The members wanted recognition and we got them "Official Status".

The members wanted more events and we have Northern and Southern Drives, Treasure Hunts, Track days, Annual Dinners..blah blah all lined up.

The office bearers don't get paid nor do we request to be, but we do this for the passion and in our own free time. Bear in mind, all of us have our own personal commitments, but we do spare time to get things organised

BTW, don't see your name in the Northern Drive list...you coming?? :nyehehe:

Things are rolling out bit by bit. We're doing the best we can. Just sit back, relax and come out when things start happenning.

It's a pity when event time comes, people go, "Oh cool! I'll join you guys in the next event la".

Yeah whats all that about ??? Perhaps the members should participate more.

Agreed. Members should participate more. Committee can only do so much but problems are the members as a whole.

Ok guys. Guess most of us have been given the opportunity to give in our 1cent, 2cent, 3cent whatever....time to get back to work and enjoy what this club has to offer.

Necc, that's a good question too. I'll try my best to tackle that one. Firstly, being official is unique to only one club or one entity. There cannot be '2' official anything. Then the 'official' title will be worthless. Let me just point out the advantages of being 'official'. BMW Malaysia and all related governing bodies such as International BMW Club Council recognises only one club. BMW Malaysia will only support the 'official' club in terms of sponsorships during events. Be it in kind, media support or monetary support. In fact, the committee has been in close contact with VJ and he has 'sort of' promised us tremendous support for most of our future major events. Now why I say 'major events'? Tak kan they wanna sponsor us door gifts when we organise a one day automobile maintenance clinic at an unauthorised workshop right????

Secondly, with that official status, we can officially and openly use the roundel without getting sued off our pants. On top of that privilege, we can also go after other unofficial bmw clubs who uses the roundel or brandname without any written permission from BMW AG.

Thirdly, a lot of sponsors prefer to work with an official club. E.g. that was the first question that a potential sponsor asked me when I approached them for some door gifts during one of our major events. They want accountability. They are looking for reliability. They want maturity so that when publicity is garnered during event, it would be the positive type.

Of course from the member'spoint of view, when you start paying official membership fees, you'll be getting some goodies with the membership. You don't just get a card to add more weight to wallet. It reflects status.

These are just a few advantages of being in an official club. Can't unveil too much until the final confirmation is obtained. :D

However, I think no one should complain about not being paid knowing in advance of the requirements (and the s.hit) that comes along with it :) When one offered their service, irregardless of whether being paid or not, one should assume the responsibilities. This also applies to the rest of the committee.

Rgds
Have we ever???

But to some, it's always the thought of the comm is using the club for personal gains...NO?

I mean come ON and see the light, you've been there before.!

I definitely agree having an official club will bring in benefits to the club.

Having said that, the official status and hence the recognitions by sponsors and etc will ONLY be beneficial if the club's committee strives to build working relationships with them to sponsor events in kind or monetary terms.

I, as a member of this forum disagree that we should wait (if needed to) 700 days for BMW Malaysia to revert back to us before we can firm up our yearly Events and Outing Schedule. If Mr. Vijay is too busy to spend a little time for the club, then its too bad, but we have to move on. Afterall, all these years we have not been getting ample support from them, so to speak.

Cheers

There's an issue which appears to have been officially side-stepped. What happened to The Necessary's brilliant idea for the Club's beauty pageant?!! I don't see it being officially featured in the official calendar of official events by the official committee members in charge. Just my unofficial 2 syillings.
