How often do you wash your car?

This may not be squarely on topic but related....what cloth do u guys use to dry the car?I'm using a 'perma glass' orangey kaler thingy sort of like sponge in the form of a cloth...Works well when already damp (absorbs water well) and works better when already used (when new not so hot) but now starting to lint...dun like that....anyone with better suggestions? How about terry cloth e.g. white good morning towels...?

try micro fiber. I have meguiars, 3m, japanese ones and american brands in my inventory.

there are different types of micro fibre. some good for washing and some good for buffing.

Around everyother day for me, unless I manage to not drive the car or the car gets extremely dirty in the rain and I cannot tahan :)

I used to use Meguiars Soft wash gel, but have since switched to BMW Car Shampoo... Excellent product from BMW and the more frequent u use it, the shinier the car gets and the harder it tends to get dirty due to the coat it leaves on the surface. Also great for cleaning wheels, as the suds really pick up the brake dust and shampoo leaves a nice gleam. SWG was gentle but did not clean as well (as cleaning cloth tends to get dark as well over time) and gave me more orange peel effect, while the BMW shampoo's shine is sharper. Cloth used to apply shampoo stays very bright and clean.. so I figure the surface of the car is more free from contaminants as well :)

Sorry Kev, not entirely on topic but related :) :

Make sure you use some form of syntethic wax or sealant on it. Organic wax will melt due to the heat and embedd the brake dust onto the surface of your rims.

I remember that you have some tech wax....that'll do just fine, as that's what I use on mine!

i try to wash at least twice a week, myself DIY. My car's previous owner took car of the car well but i think sent too often to "unprofessional" car wash centers. Result = swirl marks/scratches. I went to HB recently. As my car is only 2yrs old & paintwork still good, i didnt want to do the "sanding" process as it was deemed unnecessary by HB as well. So the surface preparation work was done using Meguiars' Diamond Cut. Removed most of the swirl marks but left with some fine scratches still visible at only certain acute angel & certain lighting condition at night (not visible during daylight). Then they did the MG Dual Action Polish, followed by MG NXT Tech Wax. Very nice!

In fact, i bought a bottle of MG's NXT Tech Wax .... after a car wash, i will apply a layer of tech wax on the engine bonnet .... then next car wash, the boot cover ...then next car wash, the roof. Section by section to maintain shine. Flat sections stain easily e.g. engine bonnet ...i think the flat surface collect dirt when car parked + heat of engine after running.

Easy DIY. I use only microfiber cloth to wash the car. Sponges are BAD, only use on the rims. In fact, i am going to buy the MG's car wash mitt (with glove so no soap on hands!) and the MG's ultimate car wipe. Both of these are made of high tech microfiber material.

:)

Used to wash it every other day when I first bought my car.
Had it for 1 year now so switched to once a week.
Use liquid hand soap with sponge than hose off.
Thereafter use bath towel to dry.
Than use Meguires hot shine for the tyres and Meguires trim detailer for the external trims.
Use Mequires QD once every 2 weeks.
Once every 2 month I use Meguires NXT wax

One thing good out of all this... your car would not attract the undesirables i.e. those that would part your car from you.

But at the same time, the desirables may not cum too... :(

Hahahahahahaha............sabar bang.............sabar!

Once in two weeks... my car is black... but I think that's not enough. Good thing I've gotten the baby teflon coated so washing is a breeze, one quick hose down with regular shampoo makes the car look like it's been polished! :)

Every 2 days...actually my good Cambodian maid does it (bless her)...I taught her how...with Nanomite Swiss Made Car Shampoo For Car Care and Detailing. Nanotechnology has entered the car shampoo arena-might as well use it! Not cheap though...almost 50 ringgit for a not so big bottle...but its good!!
