Hey guys,I'm looking for an affordable projector to watch movies and astro(read:football) in my house. Got complete blackout so dont really need the super high brightness. Also mainly using for watching tv so dont really need high res for data input. Hi def is compatible would be nice. Anyone can recommend me anything. Preferbly something around RM3k. Cheaper better.

Hi Def is already high resolution.

I think you can get some LCD projector for that price budget but not Hi Def.

Ahhh... Home Theater enthusiast. Hmmm, where is ChanKL, and the chap I invited over my home for a HT tea session.

Guess you've a budget planned. So my opinion:
1. Native wide screen (16:9) or full screen panel. For Astro, guess full screen will suffice. Not sure when they will go wide screen and/or digital.
I only use my old wide screen Panasonic PT/AE100 for good action movies. I stick to my 48" Sony RPTV for tv & some movies.
2. LCD or DLP? I got LCD cos my eyes are sensitive to DLP effect & since I also got quite decent curtains.
3. Watch out for input connector type. Not in the market for projector, but new flat tv may not have S-Video for Astro connection.
4. Budget for video cables as well. Unless you don't plan to properly lay it now. Also, prepare to do 2 or 3 types. I started with Component & S-Video, ignoring the computer RGB type. What a mistake, as I've been using my own setup computer HT system for past 5 years. Have to look for a graphic card that support conversion using component output. I had numerous Pioneer DVD players laying around unused.
5. Screen. You may want to invest on a screen later. The black bar at the side also enhance the picture.

I guess thats all. Good luck on your hunt, and enjoy.

Cheers.
