Now that price of gas is up, one has to be careful about gas consumption. My onboard computer shows that my car is doing 7.5km a liter. Thats not good at all. I was told that it should normally run at 12km a liter. I just changed my camshaft sensor as my regular mech says that may help the consumption. Still no go. Any ideas from anyone out there?

Mind converting that to km/l? Anyone? My maths has gone real rusty

I am driving a E39 530i too.

town driving giving me about 400km for Rm120 (v power old price)
Now the math as per your request.
RM120=400km
RM120/RM2.15=55.8liter=400km
1liter=400/55.8
=7.17km/liter.

Your consumption seem fine to me, what's you engine capacity?

E39 520i 2.2
1)Average speed at 120kmh (about 9-10lit/100km) to cyberjaya using serdang way
2)Average speed at 160kmh (about 11lit/100km) using serdang way
3)Average speed at 170kmh-190kmh (about 12.8lit/100km) using KLP highway
4)Average speed at 120kmh-140kmh (about 12.4lit/100km) using KLP highway

Weird but seems true. KLP highway too many uphill/downhill, therefore consumption also higher, toll also higher, therefore now I use the normal serdang way, consumption better, toll cheaper, can drive longer, since slightly further away, but, nett still save.

I have an E39 525i (2001). Trouble is I used to get 11.2km/L sometime ago. About a year ago I had some mech trouble (engine lost power and slow pick up). Some repair works were done on the car. Its after that the consumption increased. The mech just couldnt pick out the fault and until now thats the consumption.

Anyone with the same model wants to give their views too?

Thx bro. When I programmed my onboard comp to compute the consumption on that format I have > 13lit/100km. Now I am confused....:eek:

My E39 528i (1996) drinks 12.5l/100km for city driving & 8.8l/100km for NSE (KL-JB-KL). Not bad for a car with 2.8l engine & the funny thing is that my '99 Perdana needs same amount of petrol for KL-JB-KL but a lot less comfy & also dare not go more than 160km. :rock:

My ride is e39 525i ('01)... my fuel consumption on the average for city driving is 8.6km/L (thats still based on the old v-power price, new pricing yet to determine)

Is it considered on the high side? any opinions from others?

I don't think so, the car is design to get better on highway, during city drive we tend to move the heavy car (to over come the initial) so often due to congestion that is why it suck the fuel so much. if you refer to the manual, 525/528/530 the consumption is not a lot of difference. Basically for 528 city driving is around 7-8 km/liter, while on highway it is around 12-14km/liter. meaning you should get 100KM for 7-8 liter on highway. If you used 20liter just to get 100KM, something is not right.

haha bro, you missed the point that he stated he is using 20l/100km travelling at 200km/h!!!! that is perfectly normal fuel consumption as the engine will be revving above 4k rpm at forth gear just to attain that kinda speed. so you speed, you use more fuel.

well,mates,
u guys gotta goodthing goin here,so,don't mind if i crash in.
well,my 525[e39]2001 lady gives me 500-520km for a fuller[that's rm190NOW PRICE]i now i get this with a 50% heavy foot.

my respect to you bro leforte it takes a lot of determination to achieve that kinda mileage considering the power u have in your car :top:

I believe he traveled a lot on the highway.. :)

The best way to save is going NGV!! RM190 can give you 2375km !!!!

I am getting about 10.2km/L, mostly stop and go traffic.
For long distance, the best I've gotten was 14.88km/L

Do you guys know how to reset the Fuel Consumption reading for every trip on the OBC?
