Not really, I have 2 friends who got stopped in a roadblock recently, both are driving E36.

Keep it at 6000K or below on HID and you will be safe.. both of our friends on E36 was stopped as they on 8000K HID

Yeah, true... they both are using 8000k HID. I am using 6000k, will I be spared from this thing? I hope so.

Guys, for those of you who use HID 6000k and below, do you guys face any problem from JPJ or the traffic police? Please share.

Thanks

what actually the law say about head lamp.
is it stated specifically that all HID are forbidden or is it the one fitted by other than manufacturer only illegal. if so, how to determine which one fitted by the car manufacturer and which one fitted by other than the car manufacturer. OR
is it about the brightness. if so what are the brightness that are allowable. is it the brightness at the bulb are measured or is it 1 meter infront of the bulb that measure. is it the brightess spot hat are measured or is it the average of certain diameter of the corona are measured. Is it only the brightness that exceed certain figure only are illegal, what about the minimum brightness figure. OR
is it about the color. if so, what color are allowable. Do all LEO (law enforcement officer) have the equipment to measure all this. (don't be like the new identity card that incorporate your driving license detail and bla..bla... and at the end still ask you to carry the original driving license). Those equipment need calibration. how often they calibrate it. does it clearly written in their SOP (standard operating procedures) or better in their ISO documents if they are ISO certified.
what about after this, people are not using bulb. LED (light emitting diode) become the favorite. Even now those emitter can produce up to 200 lumen at the emitter itself by consuming only 1 amp. I still can remember those early days of 3rd brake light. me and my friend did modified the third brake light by using LED and still i "kena saman".

oh ya... where's my pills.......

Just because few fellas forgot to switch down their high beam when there are on coming cars.. these on coming drivers plak blame it on HID or Xenon just because they can afford an OEM fitted Xenon headlight car. Perhaps they don't even know certain cars are OEM fitted with Xenon and thot all Xenon are aftermarket upgrade for selfish folks.

Govt plak blindly handles these complain and shooting down everybody.

Same quality issue with local university when Form 5 graduate is appointed as Head of university.. :( Sad Malaysian fact.

Original HID headlight

Hi all....

I am still new in BM world... I just got my car early Feb 2008. Mine one is recond from Japan. E46 320I 2.2L. What happen is my headlight come with projector and HID. So how??? Polis saman?? I am not sure is 6000k or 8000k. But what I notice is there is a sticker with BM logo and with some japan language which I don understand. I only understand the high voltage logo. So, I assume this is original from factory, am I right???:106:

If I kena summon for my E90 Bi-Xenon (summon x2).. :D I will sure pass the summon to BMW Malaysia and ask them to reimburse me.. :p can ah?

When driving my colleague's new Camry (with original 4600k HID), was blocked at MRR2 awhile ago and the JPJ let me go without a word.

Just keep your HIDs guys. They don't know what they are talking about. If they stop you, just pau the summons. Once they change the Pengarah JPJ, they will not bother about HIDs anymore. This is all temporary. Don't worry too much.

Hi guys, been using HID 6000k on my E46 (non projector) for nearly 4 years.. so far no problem from police and other road users (usually they will try to get behind your car and tembak high-beam back at you).. As for the Police and JPJ road blocks.. no problem, only once where they stare at my headlamps for a while, probably thinking whether this car comes standard or modified, but my spot lights are normal yellow type, they let me go, probably if my spotlight were xenon as well, they would have stopped me. A lot of cars kena.. i saw 2 wiras, 1 myvi, 1 vios, 3 old cars, 1 accord and a previous generation volvo S40 got stopped for HID conversion. Oh well, hope they don bother me. By the way, it was at Subang, the road before the big U-turn to get to federal highway.

maze, I wonder why ppl tail u and tembak ur with their high beams.

irrespective of what lites u use - please align ur lights to the correct specs. ( low beam one ) and if you are driving with high beam on, DUN.

A general note on HID - it is exactly these wannabe HIDs and HID converts by Malaysia boleh workshop which should be stopped. They are MAJORITY ill fitted, not properly aligned and some say, a fire risk to the owners due to shoddy wiring work. For enforcement - JPJ easily just targets the converts from a non factory and they wun have a clue 6000k/8000k or what.....

So be forewarned.....alll those relevant here!

kekkekeke... you are right jules!

i have to confess that i used to have badly fitted hid lights on my fire engine. the car is small even next to a kancil but you can see me coming from miles away at night... even the birds up in the trees sleeping are not spared! LOL!! the main problem was that it was not fitted with proper projector lenses and the alignment was off totally.

its now gone back to its ori h4 osram silverstars. the birds now can sleep in peace. kekekkeke!!

Hi Jules, i think u got me wrong, i wrote no problems from other road users. I meant if i did not fit it properly, i would have kena high-beam from other road users, then i'll know my lights are not aligned properly. cheers.

All this HID banning issue came about because some people either did not adjust their lights properly or they bought the really cheap ones that beams the lights sky high, instead of focusing the light onto the road.

What I think the problem now is that JPJ cannot find a way to enforce a rule ensuring HID is adjusted properly after installation. So the easy way out, they propose to ban aftermarket HID altogether. They are oblivious of the safety benefits of using HID and the fact that it uses less energy than normal halogen.

I ended up using Phillips halogen bulbs instead of HID because of this ridiculous issue. Hopefully like all other enforcement attempts by the authorities, this will just be a phase and the hype will quietly fade away in due time.

Sorry to bitch and moan. Just venting my frustration.

problem comes when HID is getting so dirt cheap that the Kancil next door oso want to fit.. But cars with comes standard with Halogen and reflector lense are not designed to use HID which has a different light arc... Hence the light spread characteristic is way different from the Halogen filament bulb...
This applies to the stock E46 light with reflector lense... When fitted with aftermarket HID bulbs, the light spread is not focus properly and so it can shine on the birds and pontianaks perching on the trees as well as oncoming cars.

And since our 'trusted' JPJ is still adhering to some laws written 20 years ago, new cars fitted with current high tech HID oso can get summoned depending where you are at the roadblock... Why? becos of the 'effective' internal communications. And some officers at outskirt area can't differentiate what's HID and what's white light.. And since it's a grey area, you're at the mercy of the officer. So if your face resembles any of his arch enemies, you have a high chance of getting a summon....

This will be a neverending episode as long as the regulations remained to be vague for the enforcers to exploit the loopholes during roadblocks.

Well summarized by Fabian.

Please do not buy cheap HID where the reflector lenses is not doing its job.
