Guys,Just to share something here. 1.My car for the past 2 years, after upgrading to LED angel eyes, suffering the angel eyes brightness sometimes flicker like not enough current but if i turn on the front fog lamp, the brightness shall maintain.2. My auto cruise doesn't work for about a year ago, i thought that it is because i'm using the facelifted steering wheel buttons.3. My headlight vertical aim control sometimes fail to work for about 6 month4. Then, after a week not driving this car last October, my signal indicator doesn't appear from the meter cluster but work as usual from outside. Moreover, my reverse light failed, and also when i turn on the lights, all interior lights starts blinking as it not enough voltage. Check oil level, pressure and 'STOP!Check engine oil warning triggered. (this happens most of the time)What i did was sending the car to few workshop, and they failed. Until one of them pass to me few days ago their LKM, changed it with Haywire, done some settings for the LKM and walla...all working fine now. Except for the check brake fluid message appear now but i've disable the message. The LKM is for the 98 model, and mine is 96, so i guess it doesn't fit 100% for the car, and the mechanic agrees with that.Spent few hundreds to the wireman to rectifiy, and also i did changed the ignition switch but its a waste actually. Now enjoying my UDM and cannot drive the Japs sedan...heheh

Meen,

You have driven and rode her furiously hard. She is giving you indications that she wants a makeover.

For these models, newer LKM/LCM is always better. You can even use the LKM from 2004 X5 (LKM IV). A lot of E39 guys in the UK changed to a much later LKM (LKM III-B from E39 2002-2003 or LKM IV from X5) to get more options in their light control. Most changed it to get the auto headlights feature like on my car.

In short, newer LKM adds functionality, never less.

Newer LKM is compatible with older car? What to take note?

Take note of what?

If you mean what model, on the E39 I have seen

LKM II
LKM III
LKM III-B
LKM IV (this one originally from X5 but many have retrofitted to E39)

not sure if there is an LKM III-A?

Once you plug in the newer LCM, plug in BMW Scanner 1.4 and you will see additional options in the 'LKM Recoding'.

So far what I've seen is all using the same connnector. Yazmeen's 1996 car and my 2003 uses the same connector.

Only thing different is the oldie one has a sort of radiator on the side to dissipate heat, maybe because the older one uses transistors/capacitors that are prone to heat. New one doesn't have this.

Does the LKM not store mileage and car info like LSZ in E46?

Yes it does. Its easily changed, along with the VIN number using BMW Scanner 1.4.
